as i ponder replacing my sofa i wonder if i could take my 2 bench seats from dinette (front dinette) and put side by side inplace of sofa, has anyone done this? i measured my rear bench seats and they appear to be too wide for my opening. but maybe i could find a replacement dinette easier than replacement sofa

thanks bgk

I took the 2 dinette seats out. measure what you need to cut off the one so
that it fits over the step. I pulled back the fabric and used a disk cuttet
to cut part of the side leg off. Then used contact cement to fit the fabric
back in place. Cut the bench that is on the step, not the one by the door.
Then I placed both side by side . The backs linef up but u will find a bit
of difference in the seat depth.
What I did was leave space behind so we could store 2 folding tea tables as
well as 2 fold up lawn chairs. 4 inches from the wall ay the base. when the
chairs are flat it provides a teal nice single for an adult, or 2 small
children. Can take a pic to show u.

YES this has been done. Not by me but I have sat on the "couch" that the 2 dinette seats became. made the whole thing so much larger inside.

Check with Dwayne of the Canada rolling rally fame. the way he did it you could still lay the backs down to make the bed.

OR you could just read his post cause he is fast tonight.Smile

Dwayne,

You have to (please) post a picture of your layout. I was about to rip out the dinette and toss it for a couple lounge type chairs but your idea sounds really nice.

Brian,

Are you talking about using the seats from a later model that have the full metal frame instead of the earlier wood booths? If so, I think Kerry Pinkerton still has a set.

Dwayne,
Yes I did get pics, sorry to be a bother. I love the idea. I sent you a question related.

Devin, I tried to forward pics to you, I know it is not what you are doing, but his idea looks good, or atleast I thought they did. The latter ones with the metal frames are a little different than the earlier ones. My lower bunk piece is made the same way. that is the bunk that I will be getting rid of once i get sofa thing worked out.

I hate to pile on here too, but could you send me the pics as well? We are trying to figure out how we want the inside of ours to look as well.

I will forward you the pics I received,
I got a letter from this gmcer, Sounds like he is on a long road trip and having much more fun that I deserve. I am not sure how to post them to my photo album, and would not want to inply my coach loooked this good.
If anyone else want me to forward the 3 pics send me an email to
chasingsummer@triad.rr.com
And i will forward them. The 2 benchs side by side to me looks nice and well worth consideration for anyone redoing theirs.
That is except for anyone within short distance to me in North Carolina, who has the original dark brown corduroy which is faded to medium brown. You will not like , your best bet is to sell them to me and save yourself the displeasure.
