Recently we discovered that the GMC Motorhome has very little presence on Facebook.
I have set up a page and a group; the group is open access and might be a better choice for sharing events and information. I mentioned it here earlier today and suddenly a bunch of you liked it! Cool!
These will never replace the awesome community sites/lists that already exist (like this one!), but might help supplement them.

The "problem" with the page is that it takes active management by the page administrator(s), but it might be useful for getting news out.

If this was bad form to post, please forgive me; I am merely trying to increase the visibility of the community and the motorhome itself to a broader audience.

at various times different people have done groups with the GMC on facebook. they never seem to last though there is always initial interest (I suspect from the same people every time). I don't think any of us think it's bad form. There isn't a competition over where to disseminate the information and I, at least, am of the opinion that the more exposure we get the better.

I'll try to keep it going - I work in social media and I'm on Facebook all day anyway. Facebook has made a number of improvements to Pages, and a few to Groups, that should make it easier to maintain over the long term (like being able to have multiple levels of administrators and hand off group ownership if need be).
