So I have new. Stainless steel tank, and I finally have the water heater out of the coach.
Now, how do I get the assembly with the thermostat , etc. off of the old rusty tank? It appears the only thing holding it on is a couple of metal things that were either pressed or screwed on to the pipe nipples. I cannot see how to remove those.
I tried taking a vise-grips to a pipe nipple. But they must be seized into the tank because the only thing I succeeded at was stripping the pipe threads as the vise grips slipped around the pipe.
I found lots on the web about getting the tank out of the coach, but very little about disassembly.
All advice appreciated.

I would advise you to get a new thermostat, and any other fittings, rather than trying to save anything off the old tank. None of it is very expensive.

If the old tank is truly trash, apply heat and lots of it..finish with a
good splash of water...whatever is stuck should be broken free with this
method.
That having been said, if you have the Jim DeMere (sp?) stainless tank it
is a work of art and you should use new parts to go with it. Would you use
wiper blades and washer fluid fro your old car to use in your new Porsche?
