Start with basic safety checks. How are the fluid levels, brakes, steering, tire pressures, etc.. Then, check the lights and Turn signals to be sure others know what you're doing while driving.

Then the real fun begins as you decide which systems you want to refresh. There seems to be no end to the projects that can be taken on when it comes to the GMCs.

Find a way to get rid of the gas. That stuff that's been sitting in there is probably pure junk now.

First of all, thank you for your service.

You will probably need to replace the house battery.

As someone else stated, check all fluids, then change then at your earliest convenience.

One year old gas might be okay, especially if you had Stabil in it. If the fuel level is low, I would either drain it and use it in something else, or dilute the old stuff with some new.

Adjust tire pressure before trying to drive it, they are probably low.

Check the top of the engine for rodent nests.

At some point, you may want to check and adjust the ride height.

It's not a bad idea to inspect all the rubber hoses etc. either.

When my brother bought his 76 Palm Beach, it had been sitting for 10
years. It took us 4 days at the PO's house to get it ready to travel
from CA to WA. It had about 15 gallons of lacquer thinner in it. Had
to figure out a way to get rid of it. I had towed my ManxVair as a
towd for us. Well, we took the old gas and put it in the tank of the
buggy. We let it run all night and most of the next day. It finally
ran out, and that took care of that. Put new gas and a filter in the
buggy and it ran fine. JWWD.

Check the top of the engine for rodent nests.

To do this properly you will need to remove the air cleaner housing. The little buggers like to tuck in under there. The danger is the nesting material can start on fire where it is over the exhaust crossover passage in the intake manifold. Here is what I found after I had vacuumed around the air cleaner housing:

http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/engine-room-b4/p33689-engine-comp-critter-ev.html

Note the charing on the debris over the crossover.

I believe this is the coach I went out to help with in the spring. I didn't have a gas can on me so was unable to prime the carb to help it start, but there was no gas coming to the carb. Was parked on a pretty severe uphill, which I'm sure wasn't helping the pump prime.

Anyway, welcome home and let me know if you need a spare set of hands. My house is pretty busy these days, but I'll find some time to come over.

hey guys I got the beast running again. I am still on inclined driveway and it seems as if the air compressor has stopped running. When I first started it the compressor ran but then it cut off. I was expecting it to return pumping in a few minutes but it has not. What should I be looking for? I can't get it off the hill without the bags inflated fully.

Sir: in the glove box fuse panel the top fuse should be a circuit breaker (not a glass fuse) and is the compressor power feed. Many run shut offs and shrader valves so they can air the bags independant from the on board system if needed.

I found it, its a solid peice of metal, I do not see anything to indicate that it needs to be replaced? I also have a shrader valve on both sides but I would rather get the pump running

use the shut off and the schrader valves

run a wire from the battery to the air compressor till you can get-er-up

add schrader valves to the air bags,. till you find the problem
