We're holed up for the night at OK Campground west of Nashville. We plan
to RON at Babler Memorial State Park near St. Louis tomorrow, and possibly
Monday, night while visiting HER very sick niece.
As we passed through Nashville today on I-24, what should catch my eye, but
two GMC's side-by-side at an RV dealership on the frontage road. SHE
didn't protest TOO much when I took the next exit and backtracked. Both
coaches were open for inspection but no salesperson was available to
accompany me, thank goodness. I made photos, but later learned from the
lady in the office that there are 24 photos of each item in their inventory
on their web site. The links below will serve for your visual inspection.
I told the saleswoman I'd post the flyers at GMCMI and that perhaps
someone would call about them -- despite the prices being about twice what
the market will bear. She smiled and nodded agreement -- I believe both
coaches are on consignment.
TZE 168V100204 belongs to a widow. It's set unused since her husband died
a couple of years ago. The conditon of the coach is what I'd call good
neglected. It was probably well maintained by her husband. I did not
crank it, nor examine the under carriage nor engine. The interior has
nice, not entirely matched, cabinets, and decent upholstery. From the S/N,
I think this one should have a 455, but I didn't check. I'd call the paint
fair-to-good original. The "Sale Price" posted is $14,999. The saleswoman
said she has no idea whether the owner will deal, but stated that "it needs
to be moved & used".

TZE 167V102380 belongs to a couple who just retired and bought a big rig
with slideouts, so no longer need the GMC (act fast if you want this one --
you know it doesn't take very long for reality to set in. ). Again, I
didn't examine the mechanicals at all, but I did notice that the wheel
wells are immaculately clean, as are the air bags, and the under-hood areas
looked very well maintained. My impression is that the only think this
coach is likely to need is color-coordinated carpet replacement.
Everything else looks darned good.
The signs are that it has always had good maintenance. I have a copy of a
2-page list of "installed since 2004" items, including electric fuel pump,
complete front end and brakes rebuilds, mascerator, 2 flat TV's, "Top of
Line" air mattress (fixed in rear). headliner, Fantastic Fan, Corian
Countertop, 55A converter, ViaAir 400, etc., etc. It does have a 403.
I'd call the paint "good original". The "Sale Price" of $17,999 may not
be twice what it's worth, but without having driven it I'd still say $9000
is more like it -- but well worth that.

Either of these could be a good buy for someone; neither should require a
lot of work.
I'll post the flyers on the For Sale BB at Amana.

Roger,
After due deliberation, considering our schedule, I decided seeing you at
Hopedale and Amana would have to suffice.

Ken, it was mid 1977 for the switch from the 455 to the 403. Both of these coaches should have left the factory with the smaller motors. As an early 1978, it should have the "best" Imron paint (unlike a late '78) and the first Electro-Level system.
You are probably right on the pricing for the current market. I would have to know more of the mechanicals before fixing a "fair" price, The 77 looks to be a nice coach, but I like the '78 GM stripes.

I've seen those two coaches! I went out one day and looked at them to get ideas for my own. I agree. They are both in pretty good shape. I would be glad to take some additional pictures if anyone needs me to. They've been there at least a couple of months.
