Sooo, we bought our GMC in May and had barely driven it.
While going down the highway the oil pressure dropped to zero and it started to rattle and clatter. we had it towed to our local AAMCO because they had a big enough bay and were able to work on it (we had recently had them replace the leaking radiator and the carb).
They dropped the oil pan and found it had thrown a main bearings and found lots of sludge and metal filings. We were able to get a completely rebuilt 455 (balanced, blueprinted,...), they installed it and it ran beautifully!
Took it for a day drive to WI 3 weeks ago and got maybe 100 miles when the engine started to make chattering noise and the oil pressure dropped. We made it into a truck stop and had it towed from there.
It appears that it has suffered the same failure (WTF?) we are now waiting for it to get towed from Lacrosse WI back to AAMCO where it be repaired under warranty (hopefully!).
I'm somewhat mechanical but I'm still trying to wrap my head around the workings of this beast, as for my wife: I have averted the divorce by admitting the GMC is my fault and my problem :-I and she now says she will 'consider' riding in it with me again "some day" (that's progress!).
