Hey All;
In May, Diana and I were at a dune buggy run in Moab, UT. While
there, a fellow by the name of Britt Palmer and three of his college
buddies showed up in a bright red GMC. He and his crew were taking it
to LA to drop it off at a famous car builder to have him turn it into
a contender for the Class-A motorhome Land speed Record. JimK
mentioned that Applied GMC has been a sponsor for this build. I Britt
him a text last night wondering how the build was going and if they
were going to hit the salt this month. Here's his reply...
"Good to hear from you Gary. We arrive at the salt flats on 10/3 for
the world finals event. Motorhome is just about to be painted. 502 Ram
Jet, nitrous, fire suppression, full interior roll cage, Sparco race
seats, custom cut aluminum wheels, seamless windows, limited slip
front diff, front and rear stabilizer bars, quad air bag in rear,
airbags up front, custom front and rear diffuser/spoilers and body
totally shaved smooth from front to rear. We will probably run for an
official time on 10/4. I really do need to update my website. Hope to
see you there! Bring the turkey!!"
His webpage is palmerdesignsltd.com
I'm going to go. Anybody else want to see a 130mph (the goal) GMC motorhome??

Toilet? Kitchen? Bunks, or gutted?
I think a MH land speed record must retain it's ability to be used as a MH.

That’s quite a compelling story he tells about his neurological disease. I admire his spunk.

Well, LSR rules are odd. I would expect it depends on the class, but
mostly it is about form, fuel, and if it is supercharged, as I vaguely
remember.
The more amusing part to me is when someone realized that most of the
motorcycle records had been set in the 1950s (with the exception of
big bike stuff), and went out there with a collection of basically
stock modern smaller displacement street bikes and reset a bunch of
them.
I wish them luck, in any event.
Hmmm, stick a pair of 454s, each driving a rear axle, set some really
high motor home speed records!

Twin 454's -awesome. Reminds me of 2CV. They wanted a four wheel drive version during the late 60's, so they installed an engine at both ends. Your choice, front wheel drive, rear wheel drive, or all wheel drive. Used a link to connect the two transmissions together. No idea, considering the era, how they kept the engines in sync.
Saw lots of 2Cv's on my many Army sponsored trips to Europe, never saw the four wheel drive.
Would make a great towd.

Some years back, I went to Gingerman Raceway in Western MI for one of the events in the One Lap of America series. There was a guy there with a Cadillac Seville. Had a Northstar fwd setup in the front and also had put one in the rear. He had just barely gotten it finished ahead of the event, so wasn't all that fast on a road course. Said the hardest part was trying to keep the front and rear engine throttles synchronized. Not sure what happened to it since, but with some tuning, it could have been a rocket ship.

There was a Toronado with two engines on the drag strips in California in
the 60,s driven by John Smyser. Mickey Thompson built a 2 engine Toronado,
maybe for the street. Hurst built a two Toronado power train Olds 442 that
Joe Schubeck drove.

Gee i seem to remember it burning all 4. It was some time ago on a speed
channel program with Dennis Gage and Jay. CRS strikes again, I guess.

IIRC: There are dry lake beds in California that you can camp on at night and make speed runs during the day.
Could be a good place to see what a good "stock" GMC would do.
I do think that a MOTORHOME speed record should be held by a REAL motorhome.... not a motorhome shell with a big motor. IE: Stay in it, cook in it, sleep in it, Shower in it, S_it in it... then "race" in it. (Ok, you can dump the black tank first!)
Might be an idea for a rally.

It should be IN USE. Cooking stuff on the stove, and some kids planing

I agree Mike. However , I wanted to contest it in the fully functional WarPig while pulling my race trailer full of dirt bikes and gear. With my son riding shotgun.
That would be a memory.
