Hello Gene !
What ? I am no mechanic /engineer, but everyone knows shiny = improved mileage and higher top end..... even worked on the model cars of my youth....I am even thinking two broad racing stripes will be of benefit !!!
Yes I must be getting older.....talking to everyone I know about my maladies...... love your sense of humor and it will give me a chuckle when I go into therapy while undertaking the cure !

Studies show washed and shiny cars have less accidents, maybe this applies to shiny Alcoas. Actually, indicates a certain level of owner concern about their vehicle. Ratty vehicles wreck more often.

Amen. I believe this Tom. "Certain level of owner concern". How many motorhomes do you see wrecked? Not many. I don't think I am bragging as I am sure others can say the same, but I have never had a serious vehicle accident except the meeting of my motorcycle and a great dane that nearly took my life. That one does not count. Could not have been prevented.
I always told convicts to take care of their vehicles and would never be stopped by cops. Always being "picked on", you know what I mean. Always a tail light or blinker out, license plate light, or something.
So, shiny Alocas are a sign that the GMC owner is concerned. 8 years, in the making, but I am starting to look like I am concerned.

Don't forget stainless T handles. Polished wheels/stripes and stainless T handles for the hatch covers from Sirum. It looks completely restored ( as long as you don't press your face to the glass and see my interior;) )

I understand wanting the wheels to look good, but I wonder how many of you have ever attempted to clean the inside (backside) of your stainless wheel?
Once while Ken H and I were working on my coach brakes - actually Ken was working on the brakes. I was watching and nodding in bewilderment - I noticed that the backside of the wheels was encrusted with road dirt and grime and gradoo. Gradoo is a scientific name for everything else besides road dirt and grime.
So I decided I could make myself useful and make my GMC run faster by cleaning the entire wheel - front and back. What a mess! I used everything from a pressure washer to my wife's scrub brush that (I think) she uses on potatoes.
I did a passable job but what an effort. I didn't notice any improvement in gas mileage, the coach still vapor locked on a hot day and the length of the beds was not affected.
Still and all, I looked busy, Ken got the brakes back together and the "unseen menace" was removed from my Alcoas.

Okay Dan,
You must be a SERIOUS perfectionist, at least when it comes to your ALCOAs. The first time I saw your coach, at a GMCSJ rally, I was so impressed with the shine on your wheels that I took a picture of one of them! And that was over three years ago!!!
I too clean the insides of my wheels. Every time I rotate tires, on any of my vehicles, I take some Simple Green and a Scotch Brite kitchen sponge to them. The look much better that way and the gunk on them doesn't throw them off balance.

Yep, Simple Green. I have been using that stuff for 25 years. Does some unbelievable cleaning.

Simple green would not touch what I had. I wore out a screwdriver and a chisel trying to get that stuff off. I even tried Purple power and brake cleaner. It took a barrel of elbow grease.

That's why I keep after them! The initial cleaning can be a bear.
