George,
The actual tech sessions are very fluid and sometime are moved around
to help the presenters. There is a schedule here: http://www.gmcmi.com/current/2012F_conv_ladies.pdf
But it doesn't say what will be presented. Maybe the convention
manage has a list that is more concrete.

I'm in the same spot as George. I can only attend for one day and would like see the tech presentation schedule to determine what day that will be.

Jim is being optimistic. We are still hoping to make it to Amana - but it
is a long journey for us, at a heavy gas price. We haven't been to a GMCMI
rally in several years, because of the distance away from the left coast.
Seems like they can't get any closer than the other side of the Rockies.
This being said, we really like their conventions - the people, the ice
cream, and for the most part, the locations selected. Don't like GMCWS and
GMCMI being held at the same time as GMCWS has the same incentives for
attending (ok, maybe not all the ice cream one can eat!). Really is stupid
having duelling rallies. If we do manage to make it to Amana, it will not
be because of anything GMCWS has done against vendors, etc. It will be only
because we have always wanted to see the Amana Colonies and what better way
than with all your GMC buddies.
Really, really want GMCMI to come back to the left coast and not depend on
GMCWS to piggyback with them. Feel that GMCMI can stand alone out here and
do a bang up job.
So, which ever rally we make it to (after all, we might head to Amana and
the coach only gets as far as Utah), please support us vendors so we can
afford to make it back home.

yes, but Jimk made a bad point that you and he are got going to GMCWS and
will only support GMCMI
he has always said he did not like GMCWS, which is not a good thing for him
to say ( and really not a good thing for him to say about you :>)

I only support the vendors, and that is the rub with GMCMI
- no vendor row
- no vendor publications
- no vendor night
- no vendor publicity
- no vendor support to the paying members (me)
- presentations held hostage - forever-
- ever wonder why these vendors no longer go?

I really liked when GMCMI and Western States were scheduled back to back so we could make them both. We enjoyed Rapid City followed by Estes Park a few years back. I think both rallys got additional attendees due to that scheduling. I know that year Eastern States scheduled in conflict with the GMCMI dates even though requested them no to. I was at that meeting when they decided the dates. What happened was many of us went to the combination of Rapid City (GMCMI) and Estes Park (GMCWS) rather than the closer Eastern states one. If Western states does not want to participate in a GMCMI rally that is fine but they at least could coordinate dates so people could attend both.
Let me point out something. You have the regular attendees that will attend The GMCMI rally no matter how far away it is. Then you have the people who will attend because it is in their area of the country. If you draw a circle are the rally site (I do not know the appropriate radius) you will get your local attendees from inside that circle. I suggest that circle is probably limited to 1000 miles or less, For a really good site 1200. 1000 miles is a really long two day trip. When you put a rally on a coast some portion of that circle is now an ocean or sparsely populated central and northern Canada, or Mexico. So your local drawing area is greatly reduced and attendance will be lower. I liked Estes Park. It was 1000 miles for me, 1000 miles for LA and 1200 miles for San Francisco or Northern California.
I could see a spring rally nearer a warm coast and the fall rally more centralized to the US and Southern Canada. (90% of Canada's population lives within 100 miles of their southern border.)
Due to the cost of fuel I have pretty much set a maximum distance for me to attend future rallies at 800 to 1000 miles.

Gene,
Are the mountains harder to cross one way than the other?
If this is the case, I just guess I never noticed it.
Last year, when I pointed out that Shawnee was about 100 miles closer (I don't actually remember the numbers) to LA than I was to NYC, you never allowed that it was central to the country.
I am also a part of an organization that schedules most of the sailings events in our corner of Lake Erie. I can tell you that competition for the available weekends of the season is serious. We still end up with conflicts, we just try to keep them separated geographically.
MI, ES and GL always end up scheduling over each other to some extent. It is better now, with the single published schedule. In our case, with GMC, the sail club and folk music, there is just no hope. This up coming is amazing. You realize that you could (only if you could cross the mountains), start in New York with the Heritage Cruisers, then go on to Indiana to camp with the Great Lakers and leave there for Illinois and the Eastern States and finally end up in Amana with the international. That would be two solid weeks of GMC.
If you want a voice in the organization, you have to be a part of the organization. I don't mean to devalue your contribution, but complaining is just complaining and has no more value than that. Why don't you work with Kim to schedule a combined rally (Like ES did at DuQuoin) somewhere you would like it to be.
Going to Amana.

Gene,
You paid dues, so what is all the fuss about no access to tech data?
Why is your range so limited?
(I can understand Dothan, but not Amana?)
I consider the range on my GMC to be two coasts and the Mexican border. We see Canada as a small inconvenience (as I have to unload all the guns we carry). The bigger PITA with Canada is coming back.
These days, our big limit (political rant disabled) is our resources. My wife was going to retire, but that is now on hold. My work is all gone and our investments (that remain) are pretty much worthless. But, if we can budget for a 1000+ mile push to make Shawnee, you might try it.

Well, here is my 2 cents worth. As Technical Vice President of GMCWS, I was
really distressed over the conflicting schedules of the International and
both GMCWS and GMCES. The vendors, of which I am one, are in a box. We
drive more miles in our GMC's each year than most GMCers do in 10. Gas
costs money these days, I know, we just completed a 7008 mile trip in our
GMC. You have to make a decision on which rallies to attend, based on
distance, how busy we are at that time of year, what the likely outcome of
such a trip might be, health, condition of our coaches, etc. I sure think
that with a little more co-operation between the organizations that Rally
dates and places could be of mutual benefit to both vendors, organizations,
and individual GMC owners. Then I could concentrate on doing what my
position calls for, scheduling presenters for rallies, and doing everything
I can to keep the interest at a high level in the preservation and
operation of these old coaches. Just what I think.
