G'day,

Double Trouble has an aluminum radiator and a 180 degree thermostat. During our whole trip this year the engine water temp sits on
180 degrees even in the hottest weather.

However, when the temps drop into the 80's it runs at below 180 degrees. It runs at 160 on the Digi-Panel and the cheap HF gauge.

I reckon the bypass allows enough water past the thermostat to cause this.

Queries:

1) Can this low water temperature contribute to engine oil consumption?

2) Will this low water temperature contribute to increased internal part wear?

3) Does anyone else with an aluminum radiator see the same thing?

Regards,
Rob M.
