We left Pinetop, AZ. Tuesday, 9/4, with Old Yeller, our 73 Painted Desert
that we are restoring.
She is going to the Coop for some body work, a new paint job, windshields,
dash, steering wheel & a few other things.
The PO told me when I bought it back in 03 that 52,000 miles was the
original mileage.
Well I believe that to be true as I just put in my first quart of oil after
just over 1,000 miles.
The engine is running about 3600 RPM at 60 miles per hour with the 3.70 FD.
We got 9.8 MPG on the first tank of gas & 9.0 on the 2nd & 3rd tanks of gas
as we had strong cross winds & head winds on the last 2 tanks of gas.
Had 60 to 70 MPH winds with big rain storm in Amarillo yesterday, so we
pulled over for the day. TOO SCARY.
I hardly noticed the cross winds or rut wander as the coach drove flawlessly
even when the big rigs would pass thanks to the Jerry Works alignment
machine as she goes straight down the road without having to fight the
steering wheel.
Yes I paid particular attention to ride height.
I couldn't be happier with this coach.
I had to hit the brakes hard one time on the freeway & was I glad that I put
disc brakes in the rear.
The temps have been in the high 90's across NM. TX. & OK.
Only had one small incident with a slight stall & that was it.
Before we left I installed wind deflectors behind the grill to the radiator.
I've only heard the fan engage 3 time since we left with the temp gauge
reading normal all the way.
Some of you remember the last time you saw this coach at the Ajo Rally, it
was still on blocks.
Well the next time you see it, you won't recognize it.
Maybe Jim will post some pics on the Daily Pose.
