Folks, I know it's often mentioned here about how to get others interested
in a TZE. Attending public events is one great way, like camping on Angel
Island during Fleet Week or attending a cruise or old car show (are GMCs
really antiques?).

This weekend the Stockholms and us attended a non-GMC rally with a group
called Tri-State Traveliers. Oddly, the group was formed at a meeting with
the Cinti area dealer who sold GMCs back in the day. At the general
meeting the FMCA officer gave a great report and told the group that the
largest club in the Great Lakes area is GMC Great Lakers and that the club
must really be something special since they all own classic GMC coaches.
In a subsequent conversation, one of the members told Bob that he always
wanted a GMC and that he though it would be as much fun to own as an old
Hot Rod, Corvette or T-bird. When I talked with the gentleman he asked me
if any were around in good shape.

So, it occurred to me that it would be a great idea to "get out of the
shell" and actually get involved with a non-GMC group. Selling yourself to
the cult of owners is one thing but letting others see what one is really
like is another.

Give it some thought. You won't get hurt and may find a bigger welcome
than you could imagine.

Byron, I could not agree with you more. To keep these beauties on the road, and maintain their value, and support our suppliers, we need to get more people into these coaches. Showing at street parades, using them in functions (I have used mine at ARRL Field Day for several years.) go to old car meets. I heard that someone took a medal in his GMC, they created a special class just for RVs.
People always will ask questions about the coaches, very few are willing to believe that they are 37 (mine) years old.
Just my take on the subject - spread the faith - the cult needs members (GMCult)

I went to a Pontiac event, and the guys from my Pontiac mailing list
were asking all sorts of questions about my coaches. Told me to drive
one of them up there next time so they could see it. :)

I was thinking perhaps the GMC owners who go to Burning Man could park together one year... as long as they all promise none of the stories will come back to the list. Very Happy

Well, I've not been to Burning Man (been thinking I ought to since it
was on the beach in San Francisco), and I don't own a GMC (yet), but I
hope to remedy both of those failing in the next year.

So see you there!

Do note that tickets will go on sale in two months or so, most likely.
They have sold out the last two years, and while they are increasing
the numbers they can let in, they may well sell out again next year.

The first years, in the late 1980s, were on the beach in San
Francisco. I'd read about it in Mondo 2000, think "I should go next
year", fail to find out when and where, and miss it.

So I've been not going to burning man for more than 22 years. :-)

That is a good idea and all, but I lost a job because of my inability to bi-locate. (I never did master the technique.)

We often try to run the Woodward Dream Cruise, but we were at the festival in Leamington(ON-CA) that weekend and did get four interested people.

We had planned to get the coach in the Ypsilanti Orphan Car Show. The have a section for Corvair, so we should be a welcome. But, this year that is September 23rd. (Does the date sound familiar?)

We will keep at it - with the GMC information and the QR code in the windshield.

Byron, agree with your comments. We attended the FMCA rally at Indy along with 4 other GMCs. My wife and I volunteered to drive golf carts for attendee transportation within the Fair Ground so got to chat with a BUNCH of people. Our GMCs were scattered in the parking areas so we frequently passed by one or another and they were always a topic of conversation. We also had a lot of walkers who came by our coach and stopped to look and ask questions. A number people said they had always wanted a GMC and would like to find a good one. We directed them to the GMCMI site and to the Buddy Bethune site to see lots of nice coaches.

With regard to joining other groups, we were invited to join a Michigan club and an Indiana club. Annual dues are cheap for both and we will join - great opportunity to be seen and admired at several SOB rallys. We may look small in the parking lines, but we get more attention than any of the biggies.

As I look thru the listing of rallies for GMC chapters in the FMCA magazine, I find NONE. If the chapters would post their events on the FREE listing calendar, it would maybe draw a non-GMC owner or two to take a look. AND IT'S FREE TO POST. This might just preach to the choir, but get out and drive that GMC. Just being out on the road is fun and great advertising for our brand.

I stand corrected. Thank you for pointing out that there are TWO postings, one is the GMCI in Amana and the other is GMC Cascaders. Where are the other chapters? They have rallies thru out the year and all over the country. If WE do not advertise, who is going to know what we are doing? Each chapter needs to post on this calender.
Another reason to belong to FMCA, free ads for your chapter.

hey Ronald, Emery & Meghan .... I agree that just getting out locally generates tons of interest in our machines. But Burning Man ! Ah. This has been a dream of mine for some  years.  So I am glad there is interest in our community about that arts festival. Can you imagine an GMC'ers camp filled with our "Art Cars" ?????

So if there is any interest in a rally at Burning Man.... Count me in ! If anyone is going to Amana..... lets get together & discuss for 2013 !~!!

I'd purely LOVE t make Burning Man about once (unreconstructed old hippie).  However, I'd have to be down to about two dogs, and it would take about three weeks - week out, week back, week in the desert.  Time I probably don't have in one chunk.
