We left Quebec City this morning and now sitting off the road allowing Glenn's coach to cool down. The plastic gear to the tranny broke earli er he replaced it but the one failed. To hot it seems and melted a few of the gears. He had one more spare.
We should stop in Hartland to see the longest covered bridge then on to Woodstock, NB.

Dwayne and all, Judy and I are in the Circle 10 private campground just off
I-90, 20 miles from Wall Drug Store, in South Dakota. Well the oxygenated
fuel, Sinclair variety, bit us today. The pump had a sign that said" due to
supply and distribution problems, the products being supplied are not
Sinclair Products, but they meet all the Sinclair standards. In my humble
opinion, their standards suck. I only topped off with the swill, but that
was plenty. The coach, which had been purring along at 65 to 70 mph, began
to lose power, hiccup, belch, and probably a few other things. I limped
into a newer Shell station, which advertised on their pumps that none of
their products contained any alcohol. I filled up, and drove West on I-90,
the coach still showing symptoms of gasoline/alcohol poisoning, but
definitely better. Our destination for today was Kadoka, SD, a distance of
392 miles. When we got there, all the RV parks were closed and looked
abandoned. We drove a few miles down the road, and stopped in the first RV
park we found. In the morning, we will start early and head for Deadwood,
where we will meet up with Rob Muller and his Wife, for a night in
separate hotel rooms with real food, and long beds, and spacious showers.
Rob and I have talked many times on the phone and GMCNet, but this will be
the first time we meet in person. Looking forward to some GMC and NASA talk
over something wet and cold. Sorry about Glenn's coach, I have never heard
of a melted governor gear, I have seen speedometer drive gears stripped
out. If that transmission gets hot enough to melt that gear, there are a
whole bunch more plastic stuff in there that might be suspect too. Let me
know if I can help by remote control.

Dwayne, be sure to buy some Covered Bridge potato chips in Hartland--made
right there in small batches. We drove over that longest covered bridge on
our 2010 trip to the Maritimes. We made some good memories.

Rob and Jim, we had a wet, cool drink on the veranda at the big, historic
hotel in Deadwood last August, overlooking the shootout on the street
below. Bob was not as generous as you two. I had to sleep in my own bed
and shower in the KOA campground bathroom.
Be sure to take a look at the Crazyhorse monument. Sandra and Bob

Sharon and Dwayne, quite by accident this evening, i was sipping on a small
amount of Jack Daniels while eating a nectarine that Judy sliced for
dessert. Sharon, give this one a try, even Judy liked it. We really miss
being with you guys, but life happens. Have fun in the Maritimes, and take
lots of pix.

G'day,

Jim and Judy did the leg work and we're staying at the Celebrity Hotel.

Wow I'm impressed, WE'RE celebrities!

I reckon the car jockey's are gonna scratch their heads when we drive up and toss 'em the keys to our GMC's!

CELEBRITES don't park their own vehicles!

Regards,
Rob M.

Hi Jim
I am thinking i did not get the used governor gear meched properly as i was burning myself putting it back together. The next new one made sure to let things cool then put it together then just lifted govenor enough to unmech(if such a word) the gear then put it back in. Working fine now but may have a fuel filter or electric pump failure in my future. Have spares so will see what tommorrow brings.Enjoy Deadwood as it was fun when there in 05.

are you sure it was a "small amount"
Boy - to think of a bed long enough for you and a Bathtub for Judy - you is
living it up.
Missing your company - you betcha we are. So we are going to stop at your
place on our way
up the West Coast. Will have to let the girls out to get some of that
pampering stuff they so like plus some shopping of course.
Pictures - taking zillions of them.
Neat experience today - Glenn and Darlene were the first to drive through
the longest covered bridge in the world - and took lots of pics, then
Sharon and I did it. A real neat experience.
Glenn needs to learn that when you play with hot stuff you can get burned.

Also a Lesson taken from yourself "We have 2 ears and one mouth"

Yesterday we had an awesome day touring Old Quebec City - just great.
Did a lot of walking and had both lunch and dinner there. You know what?
the meals still do not compare to the ones we worked up on the Bar B
Q's. and Coach kitchens and enjoyed so much on the picnic tables.

Tonight was Salmon, stir fry veggies, angel hair pasta with stir fry
veggies, the girls shared some red wine that was purchased in the Niagara
of the Lake area, my white from the Okanagan and Glenn with a beer. After
dinner we sat down and watch a slide show
of pics from the ones showing us hugging and saying "until we meet again"
to today's.
Our dessert was a chocolate from Laura Secord.

I still have to get over Sharon beating me for the 3rd straight time at
Cribbage.

Now to bed
Blessings my friends

Just yesterday I was researching the RVP (Reid Vapor Pressure) of gasoline sold in various parts of the country for a friend who is filling a tank with auto fuel to be used in an airplane. Some additional interesting facts I found out about Craponol added to gasoline and RVP of "summer mix" fuel.

1. If you are in non-attainment areas the summer RVP rules do not apply. Those areas must meet the rules of the "Boutique Fuel" requirements for the area year round.

2. If you are anywhere in California the EPA rules do not apply. California has and EPA exemption and march to their own drummer (follow their own rules). Note when the western states used MTBE and ETBE instead of ehtanol they did not have RVP problems.

3. So if you are not subject to 1 or 2 above, "summer mix" fuel is required to be sold from June 1 to Sept 15th. The EPA required RVP is determined county by county. Most areas of the country the required RVP is 9.0, followed by 7.8 and some 7.2. (lower is better.) The number goes lower the farther south you go. Indiana is 9.0 (except for a few counties) while Tennessee is 7.8 . As a comparison, aviation fuel is 5.5 to 7.0 year round world wide. RVP is measured at 100 degrees F.

4. To promote the sale of Craponol blended fuel the politicians told the EPA to give ethanol blended stuff a 1.0 point exemption. So if you buy Craponol "blended" fuel in the summer it is possible to legally get stuff with a RVP of 10 After Sept 15th the RVP restriction is lifted and it is possible to get fuel at much higher numbers.

One statement I read in an EPA report that I do not understand said that in many cases if you mix E0 at RVP of 9.0 and e-10 with an RVP of 10.0 That you will get and even higher RVP with the resultant co-mingled product. I do no pretend to understand all of this. I'm just reporting what I read.

I believe that this RVP 1.0 Ethanol exemption and maybe co-mingling (that is their word) is probably what is killing us with the vapor lock issues. The RVP numbers were established long before the wide use of Ethanol in our fuel. If this exemption were lifted and E-10 were required to meet the same RVP numbers we probably would not have all of these problems.

Judy and I and the Muller's had a nice dinner, and drinks, and a great time
talking Austrailia and GMC. We had to go to Mt. Rushmore, and they were
going to Sturgis, so we said goodbye. Great People. The GMC turned over
6000 miles today on this trip. We should be home in Salem by the weekend.

O.k. You guys. My turn next. The fun part is, you don,t know when, but I
do! We left Deer Lodge, Montana at 8:10 am this morning, and crossed a time
zone. We arrived at Coere d' Alene, Idaho at 12:30 pm. We came 244 miles.
When you subtract for the time difference, 244 miles in 4 hours, 20
minutes. This old 403 really likes to ramble at 65 - 70mph. Sure beats
sight seeing with a two or three hour break in the middle, but not nearly
as much fun.

G'day,

Just stumbled on to this in my "To Be Answered" folder - OOPS! At any rate I agree with Jim, he and Judy are Great People! Would
have liked to spend more time with Jim to compare notes on how to do "stuff" but they had to get back to California.

I had prime rib and it was one of the BEST I'd ever had.

Regards,
Rob M.

Judy and I and the Muller's had a nice dinner, and drinks, and a great time
talking Australia and GMC. We had to go to Mt. Rushmore, and they were
going to Sturgis, so we said goodbye. Great People.

Jim Hupy and Judy Countermine
