I've read the operations book and don't see the answers to this. I've never been camping in an RV in my life.
The wife and I are about to spend a night in the coach (73 23' Sequoia). I've hooked water to the side but nothing worked until I turned on the pump at the over the stove switch. I THOUGHT that only was for the freshwater tank water and ASSUMED the shore water would self flow. Is there a cut off valve for the shore water supply somewhere?
Second question is grey water. I can't tell from the book but is there a separate grey water tank or does it all go into the blackwater tank?
I remember my Dad just running a grey water hose out into the yard but that wasn't in a GMC.
Thanks

Kerry,
Are you sure you connected the water to the right water inlet? I'm not sure about the configuration on an early 23' coach, but on my '75, the house water connection is next to the electrical connection, in the small door on the left (driver's) side of the coach, amidships. There is a fresh water tank fill connection inside the propane compartment at the right rear. If you DID connect your hose at the right place, and there is no water pressure inside the coach, then the PO may have changed something or added a shut off valve, although I would not understand why.
On GM up-fitted coaches, there is no separate gray water tank. All waste water goes into the same tank.

Kerry,
It appears that you have a problem in the line that enters the coach.
The external water connection where you hitch has a check valve and
some are also a pressure regulator too. My guess that because you
have water with your pump, your inlet assembly is plugged up or
damage. You can buy replacement units at any RV supply store. If you
get the version with the internal that it is the 40# set, some come
with a 55# set.
The factory operations manual X-7321A page 34 has the layout of the
fresh water system and you will notice the fresh water/cold water line
in black does not have any other items to impede water flow other than
the external water valve.
You do not have a grey water tank. You have a black tank which
receives all the waste water. It has the capacity of about 32
gallons. You fresh water tank has a capacity of about 40 gallons.
You can over fill the black tank because of its limited capacity.
Grey water on the ground is a NO NO!

Finally got with the PO. He put a shut off valve in the closet and boxed it in so the clothes wouldn't get dirty.
He always ran off the fresh water tank and when he was out of fresh water it was time to dump the black water tank. The guages weren't working and he removed them. I'll have to see if I can get them working again.

Thanks Kerry, I think I understand how to use the water system now. We've not been brave enough to try water or waste but we have enjoyed the coach almost every weekend the past six weeks. That is one nice coach you have. The upholstery is in unbelievable condition to be original.

what is the best way to tell if the water tank is full. I think waiting till it flows over at the fill hole seems dangerous
for blowing out some pipe or something. I was told when i bought it to fill it slow not to have a high pressure
putting water in it. thank you in advance to the advanced thank you.

Mickey,
You may be right, but that's the way I do it. I haven't had a problem with filling the tank that way (yet). I noticed that some of the older coaches do not have a hose connection for the water fill and rely on a gravity feed. I think the same thing can be accomplished by filling slowly with the hose connection.
If you have access to the tank, you can look at it with a flashlight to see how high the water level is. For me, crawling under the rear bed to do this is not worth the effort. I just stay near the coach while I'm filling the tank, and shut the water off as soon as I see some coming out of the overflow.

thank you m. 77 pb, anaheim ca.
that seems the safest way to do it. i like glass level vision type stuff, like a steam engine sort of gauge some how. You could put
a small window in the side of the gmc that has clear tube next to it to see it fill to the point. or something. best regards. mickey

The traditional way to tell if the water tank was full was to put a
whistle in the vent line.
when filling the tank, the whistle would sound, until water reached the
whistle.
but
a water gauge is a good idea also ;>)

My City water works but I also never use it. The water tank and black tank gauges work sometimes but Again, if the water tank is low then it is also time to dump the black tank. I guess if I were permanently hooked up to a water and sewer source it might make sense to use the city water connection. That is not how we use the coach. I do use the city water connection to attach air pressure to blow out the plumbing before freezing winter weather sets in.

Haven't looked in my PB. In the Teransmode, Norris put a long narrow tank under the couch on the passenger side which extends into the cabinet under the icebox. The drain cock is there as well. I open the cabinet door and look at the tank.

I'm just the opposite - maybe 1 in five nights there's nmo water hookup. Perhaps half the time there's aewer connection. So, I use the water connection to fill the tank, and then when I go to the dump site, I run fresh water through all the sinks and tub to wash out the blackwater tank after dumping it. And since I saw a drip last time I stopped, I'm glad I do, cos now I have to get under the coach and figure out why the black tank is leaking. I suspect the outlet valve.
