I have a not installed Viair 450C compressor left from the PO.
Should I install it in place of the factory Hadley compressor? (which works, but makes a lot of racket)
It seems like it would be quieter.
Thanks for the input.

Dolph,
Go ahead and install it. You will appreciate the difference. I changed my factory Dana compressor out a few years ago for a Viair 350-c. It is a 100% duty cycle compressor and is a little slow, but it hums along nice and quietly and gets the job done. I didn't really have a point of reference on the old one. It was noisy, but I didn't realize it was abnormally noisy until I was pulling into a Saguaro Jetset rally with it running, and Steve Ferguson said "that's the noisiest Dana compressor I've ever heard". It pumped the system up to pressure (I have a 140 PSI switch on my air tank) just fine, but it sounded like it could fall apart at any moment.

Speaking of air compressors and Rob asking the Dragon Lady for air for his tire...
I haven't heard of anyone running an air line off the tank to air up a tire or blow crud off. Of course the tank is small, but the compressor should be adequate?

Don,
I have done just that:
http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/new-viair-suspension-compressor/p34680-new-viair-suspension-c.html
http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/new-viair-suspension-compressor/p34689-new-viair-suspension-compressor.html
Since those photos were posted, I have picked up another coiled air hose and put quick disconnects on both ends. I carry an air chuck and a blow gun. It has come in handy several times. I can reach all around the coach from the manifold location under the left hood.

I have had a quick connection fitting on mine for over 25 years. I carry a coiled yellow plastic hose which is long enough to reach any tire. For the rears I have to put it out a bedroom window. I carry both a tire filling fitting and a blow gun.

What the front mounting stock, or something you came up with? (or is it a 23' thing).
Mine is mounted in the closet, and I could see a huge benefit to have it up front.

Dolph,
My coach is a '75 Palm Beach (ex) which makes it a 26 footer. The earlier, Power Level equipped coaches have the compressor mounted up front, near the left front of the engine. There is also an air tank there with it, about a gallon, I think. The PO installed a hose to a tee, which he mounted (with hose clamps) on a piece of aluminum stock, mounted to the firewall, (I think) on the wiper motor bracket.
I guess you could accomplish the same thing bu mounting a tank up front somewhere and running a line (1/4" air brake line) to itfrom your compressor in the rear. I am not familiar with the workings of the Electro Level equipped coaches to know how well that would work, in terms of filling the tank. I'm sure you would want a check valve in the line between the compressor to the tank.

Don,
When I read this email a bulb came on above my head and I said to myself; "DOUH, now I remember why I bought two of these:
http://www.harborfreight.com/1-4-quarter-inch-x-20-ft-coiled-air-hose-97923.html
Unfortunately they are sitting in my storage unit in Houston! :-(
Funny story follows.
I rebuilt the OEM Dana pump from The Blue Streak and brought it to the USA with a view to install it in Double Trouble. While I was
at the COOP I had it on a shelf in the mechanical shop. When I went to install it, it was gone. Turned out that JimB was going to a
Sunshine Statesman Rally and wanted something to donate to a raffle and my pump was elected. Needless to say he apologized and
credited me with the cost of the rebuild kit I had put into.
The Viair 480C is more than adequate to inflate tires or blow crud off. However, since I love Overkill I recently bought a York
compressor hooked to a DC motor from CharlesW which will be installed when I get back to Houston, as I understand it those suckers
will run air tools!
I was going to bring it back to Aus for The Blue Streak but it's WAY to heavy to put in my luggage.
Regards,
Rob M.

Don,
In my 77 Eleganza, I had a Darcy Moses Air system which used a York
Compressor that was electrical driven. I could run air tools and do
tires.

Wow, thanks for the ideas guys.
Being reminded, I do now remember Emery having the connect and reaching the rear tires through the window.
And Carl, beautiful installation and nice location. My shop fill connection is down under there on the tank, not handy to get to. So I air up the bags and tank with shop air through the closest schrader on the rear without closing off the cutoff valve. Maybe I should put a quick connect there too.
And York compressors for air tools now that is serious air supply!

Don,
I also made up a double male ended coupler with a check valve between the two fittings, so I can hook up a hose from my garage compressor and walk away while it's filling the system. I seldom use it though, with that Viair compressor on there it fills up fast enough.

I have a had a York compressor for some time but just haven't had the time to install it.
I used an old Onan starter motor that I had. I cut off the housing end for the gear and then fashioned a bearing for fhe end of the motor to hold the shaft and attached the pulley to the end of the shaft.
When I install it I will fit it into the inside cupboard across from my bath that presently holds the Dana pump.
