Ys the dye is available from DuraCool. So I ordered it as part of a kit (on sale for under $50 -usually $90). The kit includes a dye that is visible without the special glasses. Also incl is the hose, gauge, leak sealer, and mineral oil (called "Chill"). The DuraCool cans are 6oz. @ $6.25 and I believe Ken said it will take <4 cans. It was the shipping that killed me @ $50+-. 2nd day air. UPS.

It should take a fraction less than 3 cans. When you install it put in 2 cans and start your aircinditioner on high and add the 3 rd can with the engine at 1500 rpm. Measure the lie side pressure and stop adding when you are at approx. 20 psi (with outdoor temp up to 80 or 90 degrees). If its hotter out the pressure will be more like 25 psi
Some people have used 3 cans but it might be a little bit colder with less.
If you are in a high humidity area it might be too cold and the condensate might freeze up your evaporator coils in the heater box. If that happens you will notice a reduced air flow from your dash. You should then add a little bit of Duracool.
It works the opposite of what one might think. Too high a charge is hotter. The lower the charge the colder it gets -- so don't put in 4 cans. It won't cool properly.
