I just spent a couple days installing spring-loaded hood latches per Jim
Wagner's pictures.
http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/push-to-open-hood-latch/p6171.html

I used McMaster-Carr #10825A26 Push-to-Open latches, about a foot of
1x3" aluminum angle and various stainless 10-32 and 4-40 screws and nuts
for the mod. It ended up a bit more fastener-centric that I like, but
not knowing where thing were going to end up makes it difficult NOT to
use lots of screws. At least it all comes apart easily.

It took me a Saturday to get all the latches installed and a good part
of Sunday to build the safety catch. Couldn't figure out what Jim had
done with his catch so I went after it a little differently and
therefore probably spent a lot more time on it that you will if you copy
my design.

They work. I think I'm going to put some foam behind the hatch lips so
I have to push against that a little to release them. Jim said his
would release by themselves now and then which is why he added safety
latches. We'll see how it goes.

The plan is to paint this coach at some point in the future and this is
something I wanted to do to smooth out the front end before we get to
that. I hate washing around stuff and I REALLY hate waxing around
stuff. Nice smooth nose will make that less annoying. :^)

I like the safety latches. I had the hood pop open while
crossing the Carquinez bridge. It almost broke the hinges.

Regards,
Bill

I thought about those. I like the system but you still have to grab a
handle vs just pushing the hatch.

With 2' of aluminum extrusion and all the hardware I've got $50 into
it. Let's not count the R&D time. :^)

Kelvin,
Just got back from a trip with the GMC. I used foam on one side hood and not on the other. The foam side stayed latched and the nonfoam side released. I will still use the safety latches but use foam on both sides.
Thanks for the idea.
