I have gotten them locally at both Parts Plus (ATP filter), and O'Reilly's. You just have to find someone who will go the extra mile for you. Easier to pick up the phone and call Jim K. if you can wait a few days

Howard,

I need to tell you about the CarQuest at 9089 Dallas Street here in La Mesa, 619-667-9800. Up until a year or so ago they were an independent. Can't remember what their name was at that time. One day I am driving by and it is now a CarQuest. The original employees from the independent shop are still there. I use them exclusively (except for the Jims) because they have always gone out of their way to help me figure out what I need. Several times I brought in the GMC parts exchange list. They would start from that and eventually find what I need and they would tell me I need a Car Quest "such and such" instead of the Napa number on our list. I have sent my findings to Bill so we can keep the GMC plist up to date.

Hopefully the guys you know will stay at Car Quest. My experience was somewhat different: I dealt with an independent parts house, Arizona Auto Parts, for years. They were bought out by Car Quest. My account followed to there. Over a short period of time, the personnel changed and the service I was getting went into a steep decline. I ended up following my parts man to another local outfit, Merle's Auto Parts (part of the Part's + network). As a contractor, I have what they call a "preferred customer cash account". I get just about the same discount as the local garages. They sell only premium parts, definitely a cut above Auto Zone, Pep Boys, and even O'Reilly's and Car Quest.

The local independant dumped Napa a couple years ago.  Slack (since 1928)  they got someone who remembers the part, whatever it was.

In this part of the world (N.Florida), it's Napa or O'Reilly's.
The only ones who will not give you the stare when you mention anything made before 2000.
Carquest closed here, not a surprise. Only carried red battery cables, said they worked for pos and neg!
