I am looking at a 1976 Palm Beach. I live in Houston so the gas has ethanol. Where I shop, they have 3 grades of gas, 87, 89 and 93 octane.
1. If I get it, which grade should I use?
2. If we rebuild the motor, can I use the 87 grade?
Thanks, Robert

Robert,
I run the cheapest gas I can find. My only advise is to make certain (that is - replace) all fuel lines and vents are operating. I also have an electric fuel pump that has probably helped save me from vapor lock, but I don’t know for certain. It probably helps to block the crossover ports on the intake manifold too.

I use 87 gasohol in mine, which has alcohol proof fuel lines. It will vapor lock, but doesn't knock on it. Engine is box stock 455 with 92K miles on it.

Robert,
You can run crap gas in it as stock, or after a rebuild. Just stick to
8.5:1 pistons and all will be fine.
