We were in Canada this weekend for the "Tomato Festival" in Leamington (on the Canadian Rivera aka the north shore of Erie).

While at the Duty Free Store at the bridge, a lady stopped and asked if she would mind if she took pictures. ??!
She said they had been looking at coaches - specifically at GMCs - I was kind of stopped, but told her to go ahead. As soon as Mary opened the door, she looked in and exclaimed, "It is all original!" - This was a person with more than a casual interest. She and Mary talked while I went in to buy more liquor while I could.

We spent most of the rest of the weekend in the parking lot of the municipal marina (no hook ups, but effectively priced - free &w/Wifi). The rest of the sail club came by boat.

While prominently parked in a shady place, two different interested parties came by to discuss the coach, a couple and a single guy.

The other was quite out of the blue. We took the coach into town to set up to watch the parade. We also took some others that choose not to walk the mile or more and the folding chairs of the entire entourage. Those with me had left to set a place, I was with the coach parked in the Walmart (what else) lot a partial block off the parade route. As I was securing things, a fellow carrying a Tim Horton's tray (what else - this is Canada) changed course and headed over. He stopped to say he had always wanted a GMC when he was younger, and we talked about mine and the availability of good solid coaches and then I had to hustle chairs up to the main drag as I could hear bands.

In my own world, I often say, "Where there are boats with masts, there is always someone I know, or someone I should meet." I guess some things just fit.

Matt

I have a somewhat similar incident to report. On our trip to Silver City, NM last month, we stayed at Burro Mountain Homestead, a park mostly made up of permanent or semi-permanent residents. On Sunday morning, we attended the non-denominational church service they have at the lodge, and met a couple who used to own a '76 GMC (model un-remembered). They came by for a visit and were impressed with the coach. We exchanged information and will, hopefully, keep in touch.

On the trip home the next Saturday, we had just cleared the construction zone on I-10, just west of Benson, AZ. when a red Chevy pickup pulled up on us in the left lane. The driver slowed down and matched my speed for a short time, then passed us. As they went past, the woman passenger leaned out the window and took a picture of our coach. We had never had that happen before, at least that we had ever noticed, and thought it funny.

Yup.
We traveled the south for 4 months last winter...from Jacksonville, down through Florida, and followed the Gulf to the Houston area where we headed north to GMCMI and then home. Without exception, every campground we were in, someone came over to ask us about the coach. Even a few "thumbs up" on the road. Lots of interest in these rigs. Makes a person proud to be an owner.

I get asked every time I roll into a gas station. I have also had a lot of thumbs up in traffic, even with my paint job as shabby as it is!

All the show folks remark over my coach.  "Almost like Mattuie and Jimmie's".  Jimmie Philips (since passed) was a long term Show Superintendant, and made the dog shows in an orange 26 footer, usually referred to as 'the pumpkin' by all and sundry.

We've only had ours since March, but I've been amazed at how many people take pictures of it or ask about it.

Ours is a '76 Palm Beach, all original except the PO took out some of the shag carpet. We took it to one of the state parks and as we were walking around, could overhear a bunch of pre-teen kids say "let's check out the cool green one over there!". I think that won me lots of brownie points with my own pre-teens.

We took it to the Indy 500 and got a ton of thumbs ups and high fives and lots of "Hey! It's the EM-50 urban assault vehicle!". (we call it the "Bourbon Assult Vehicle)

Last weekend we drove it downtown to do some people watching as the MotoGP and GenCon people were in town. I think the Lamborghini owners were a little miffed that we were getting more attention than they were.

It definitely gets a lot of great admiration.
