So, is there a chance I can fish out the other side of the ground wire
through the 1/2 inch hole in the roof?

I've done it 3 times on 3 different coaches. Just use a fairly stiff wire

the coach went fairly smooth except for one loose rivnut. Rather than
remove and replace I stuck it down with JBWeld. Got five bright red
lights......

the ground wire attached to the light, but detatched from the inside wire
loom - I got a short red pigtail with a male side connector attached.
