Any guess as to the price? I wonder how much it would depreciate in the first 2 years.

Still, there is something to be said about that wonderful Mercedes diesel. The Sprinter van I drove did drive like a truck, however.

A modern, efficient tool. Like driving a Honduh instead of a vintage BMW.

First we need the price, and then we figure how many miles we can go in a
GMC for that amount of money, less fuel costs for the shiney thing of
course...<VBG>

I thought I heard that the Mercedes Diesel in this wasn't quite up to the task.

Sure that thing's alright if you want to go somewhere and camp reliably and just come home. But we bought these things to work on and cuss at and work a little more and in between working on them, we give 'em a day or two by the lake.

But then it's back to wrenchin'!

Well, for my money the jury's still out on the current (V6) Merc diesel in the Sprinter.  It's back on the original in-line engine..... major problems.  Stay away from the first ones, they ate engines.  Friend sold his'n with the third engine in it (all provided by Mercedes) at 102K miles.  Said he was tired of not having it while they put engines in.

Chris,
On of the members of our club, GMCSJ, has one similar to that. The
Lelms. I was amazed on time when I visited them that they were having
dinner with two other members. Very efficient use of space in those. As
usual, look hard before leaping.

G'day,

The Sprinter is a popular Motorhome base Downunder. I can't remember if I saw any with slide outs at the last RV show I attended in
Sydney.

The main reason for that is in NSW (and possibly the other states) a "standard" driving license allows you to drive a vehicle up to
4.5 tons (can't remember if it's metric or imperial). Therefore most of the Motorhomes are below that weight.

Yes, I will have to get a heavy vehicle license to drive The Blue Streak when I get it finished.

Regards,
Rob M.

Rialta? What was that dreaded thing Arch used to drive that was based on a VW chassis? It was a good size, but constantly breaking down. He had nothing good to say about it, if I remember correctly.

Not a Rialta (VW). Arch didn't have much good to say about his
(Winnabago?). Hated the thing and went through a lot of transmissions IIRC.

IIRC, Arch's Rialta was Renault-based. Anyone surprised that it kept

Ken,

Now let's not start making disparaging remarks about French vehicles! ;-)

I lived in Paris for three years and thoroughly enjoyed driving them. Their answer to the Volkswagen Beetle; the Deux Chevaux was
one of my favorites. ;-)

NOT!

I rented a Peugeot in Paris once. Seems to me when I inquired, the nice Kemwell agent told me that "Peugeot" means "PUSH" in French.

Just what I was told.

Actually, wasn't the DeGaulle 2CV in production longer than the Beetle?  I know it was longer than the German production, but I don't know when Mexico and Brazil ceased Beetle production.

The Winnebago Rialta was based on a VW chassis and drivetrain, whereas the previous generation--the Winnebago Le Sharo/Itasca Phasar--was built on a truly gutless Renault chassis. Decent gas mileage, though. I've seen some Le Sharos converted to GM or Chrysler V6 drivetrains.

Back to Chris' original post, that rig would fit my wife and I just fine. The kids would have to sleep on the roof, though.
