Got the new issue of Hot Rod (October) today. On page 80. they show a carb heat shield with the hint,”A simple heat shield
is a lifesaver when its hot on Power Tour.
So I went down in the basement and looked in my carb cabinet. Dug out a genuine GM heat shield for a Q-jet left over from
the 70s, part# 3969837. GM apparently thought it was important back in the carburetor days. Obviously, I never needed it,
but don’t knock it unless you’ve needed it and tried it.

But have you tried a "with" and "without" comparison test? Without that,
your opinion has a value of "0".

You can do the same thing with a phonalic (sp?) gasket and it a lot cheaper.

G'day,

I have the Mr. Gasket kit on Double Trouble (can't remember which one).

I have no idea if it helped or not because as GaryK rightly noted one has to do a before and after test of the carb temp.

However, I have noted that Double Trouble starts quite quickly after being shut down hot.

The starter doesn't grind and grind and grind like I've heard some other GMC's do.

Regards,
Rob M.
