I have been catching up on some old posts and came across some talk about a spare air spring for the Leigh Harrison setup. I pulled one of the air springs off our early Harrison system and found that the spare bag I carry is about 1" smaller in outside dia. I am sure this would get me to a safe place to get a new bag but I would rather have the proper one.
Now for the question,
I picked up some new Goodyear 2b9-295 air springs at a swap meet. These are the same type as the Harrison bags but 2" larger dia. There is room for them to fit in my setup also the air intake is higher and would allow plumb them from the outside.
They would give me more travel and lower air pressure.
It seems like a win win situation BUT I know I am over looking something. What would be the downside of this swap???
Thanks for any input.

Interesting. Since you already have them, put them on and check clearances. Drive them and find out. Tell group.

I would only do one side. Basically, you are looking for adequate clearances. Too bad there was only 2, but that is enough for testing clearances. Good luck.

Measure the width where the bags connect at the center on the Harrison system. There is part of the upright support that sticks out proud at the bags mating surface, this may limit the width of the bag you can use on that system. as the bag deflates, it "pooches" out and cannot touch this metal or it will chafe and fail. Don't cut it away, the upright is already weak at that point and defects under load. Don't know how to attach a pic to posts here or I would show you what I mean.

G'day,
The Harrison system was engineered to use the bags you have on it. I know of one GMCer that has a VERY heavy coach who replaced the
front air bags with Firestone W21-760-7325 and it reduced the air pressure in his system from 120 to 105.
The size and air pressure in the bags will affect the spring rate which in turn will change the way your GMC handles.
If I were you I'd install the two Goodyear bags you have and see what it does to the handling and pressure BEFORE I bought two more!
Regards,
Rob M.
