G'day,

I got lucky and John Sharpe (currently VERY busy re-modeling his kitchen) was able to come over to Double Trouble and help me figger
out what was wrong with the Iota Auto Transfer Switch. Turns out NOTHING!

In five minutes he checked out the Iota itself and found that one of the contacts was not receiving power from the ONAN. We then
took the cover off the electrical box on the top of the Onan cover and John found one of the wires to the ONAN had corroded apart
and was hanging loose.

Here's what I did:

bought some screw down wire splices
cut them in half and used one half on each pair
Coated the wire with corrosion preventing goop
Filled the splices with corrosion preventing goop
Shoved the wires in and tightened down the screw
Covered the splices with two layers of shrink tubing.

Rob,

Congratulations. We could have almost anticipated that; relays are
generally pretty darned reliable.

What's the smaller wire pair? Looks like a couple more wire pairs un-used
in the probably added-on cable, which appears to have low-voltage
insulation.

Ken,

Congratulations go to John not me! ;-)

Actually even I would have probably stumbled on to this problem as it was clearly visible when we took the cover off the junction
box.

The smaller pair of wire are the remote start / stop from the panel. I will use one of the spare wires to install the pump prime
switch.

This problem was a learning experience and made me realize that the auto transfer switch is a nice feature the fact that if it fails
you can't get power on to the coach and that could be a disaster during hot weather I ordered a spare ATS. John did explain that I
could make up a set of jumpers as a backup which I will do. That way if the Iota DOES fail I can temporarily jump to the breaker box
from the Onan or Power cord.

Regards,
Rob M.

When it comes to electricity,,,,contact pressure is more important than contact area. Thats the second most important thing to remember about electrics!!!
