I finally got the old wheels off and new ones on. I have been quoted $7 per wheel to remove and dispose of the old tires. The rims are worth about $3.75 each at the salvage yard. So it is going to set me back close to $23 (plus my time, trouble and gas to transport them) to dispose of all 7 of them.
The tires are completely worthless (spare was covered, so looks ok, but is 12 years old). They hold air, and were holding up the GMC, I just wouldn't trust them to carry the GMC to the end of the driveway. Shipping of the rims is too costly to make them wortwhile to anybody that can not pick them up.
So.... If anybody near North Alabama wants the wheels (rims with worthless tires mounted), let me know and I will provide address/directions.
Will be listed on Craigslist too. And placed by the road with a big sign that says "Free".
If they are not gone by the day before the CFO returns from vacation in MI, they go to the tire place to be dismounted, and the rims go from there to the salvage yard as scrap.

It might be quicker to get rid of the wheels if you put some kind of a price on the sign. Locking them up with an easily broken "disposable chain" would make them go even faster! Twisted Evil

Maybe so. But I have had good luck getting rid of stuff by putting it out by the road with a "free" sign. My favorite was the old barbque grill made out of a 55 gallon drum that was so rusted out it wasn't even worth taking to the recycler. It was gone in a few hours.
