I Have A 1978 Eleganza II
and the Drivers Side 'J-Window is shattered -
It is the UPPER Fixed Window above the sliding
toll windows on the drivers side ~

I Found A Good Drivers Side Toll and J-Window
{complete in the frame} in a wrecked Motorhome -
The entire window set {including frame} that I
found in the 1974 GMC Motorhome was very easy to
remove because it had several ss screws thru the
outside window Frame
My Intentions Were To Unscrew And Remove The
'74 J-Window & Frame
Then Unscrew And Remove The 1978 J-Window/Frame
And Replace It With The '74 J-Window/Frame

BUT
My 1978 J-Window/Frame Does Not Have The Screws ~
AND
My Easy 1 - 2 - 3 R & R Steps Are Foiled ~

SO
What Is The Correct R & R Procedure For The '78 ?

THANX

~ Joe ~

To get the side window assembly out the interior trim around the window needs to be removed exposing brackets cut from an extrusion held by Phillips head screws. Remove the screws and brackets and push outward at the rear of the assembly ( by your shoulder when seated) and the window will hinge outward. Once the rear of the window has cleared the body, it can be gently articulated up and down while pulling rearward to free the window from the butyl sealing it to the windshield. Once out and the goo cleaned off you will see small flat head screws which hold the frame (Phillips drive). These screws are slender and long. Take care to loosen these screws carefully as brute force can shear them off within the extrusion and extraction is not easy. Drop me an e-mail with your phone number if you have any questions. I have pulled four of these. Two in my 77 royale and two from earlier parts coach.

No problem joe. Make sure you install the window assembly with a healthy amount of non hardening window sealant and leak check before putting all of the finish trim back in.

To get the side window assembly out the interior trim
around the window needs to be removed exposing brackets
cut from an extrusion held by Phillips head screws.
Remove the screws and brackets and push outward at the
rear of the assembly ( by your shoulder when seated)
and the window will hinge outward.
Once the rear of the window has cleared the body,
it can be gently articulated up and down while pulling
rearward to free the window from the butyl sealing it
to the windshield.
Once out and the goo cleaned off you will see small flat
head screws which hold the frame (Phillips drive).
These screws are slender and long.
Take care to loosen these screws carefully as brute force
can shear them off within the extrusion and extraction
is not easy.
Drop me an e-mail with your phone number if you have any
questions.
I have pulled four of these.
Two in my 77 royale and two from earlier parts coach.
