Check and make sure that the dipstick tube actually connects to the oil pan. Mine broke off / rusted through and it caused similar symptoms.

The oil dipstick goes between the exhaust manifold and the engine head so it gets very hot at that spot.

I had my exhaust manifold plained during my engine rebuild so I had to flatten my dripstick tube a bit through that point. I ended up grinding the flat spot at the end of the dipstick a bit narrower so it would slide past that point easily.

You may have some charred oil buildup in the tube where it passes though the exhaust manifold. Use the dip stick to measure the point where it starts to stick to see if its in the exhaust manifold area.

I had mine sticking going back in. I finally made me a cable dipstick out of stainless cable and a rubber handle that you pull a small engine starter rope with. It probably cost me about $10.00
