The GM factory one button cruise on my GMC works fine except that if you want say 65 you have to do 60 and then press the button to set. It then creeps up to 65 and that is where it stays. Is there some trim or adjustment for this? It's a 77 built 9/76.

John,
If you have the factory manual, there is a procedure on page 12-43. If the cruising speed is higher than the engagement speed, turn the orifice tube inward 1/4 turn per mile per hour. The orifice tube is the brass vacuum tube fitting that is on the side of the cruise unit, perpendicular to where the speedometer cables attach.

While the adjustment procedure DOES say 1/4 turn per 1 mph on the adjustment (in to go slower and out to go faster), My experience was that it was too much. I had to adjust mine at every stop for a while before I got it right. 1/4 turn seemed to make a difference of several miles per hour. I suspect they are all somewhat different. Maybe my rebuilt transducer was more adjustment sensitive than average.

As folks have pointed out, you can adjust it. I found that the best adjustment is to have the speed increase 1 or 2 mph above the set point. That way everytime you hit the set button it increases the speed just like the newer tap-up units that easily allow you to increase the spped a bit just by depressing the button.

Thanks much. That's the info I needed. I'll try to get to it this week. I like the "tap up" idea. Most people don't even know how to use the 1MPH increment/decrement feature on newer cars, then again, most people brake in turns instead of braking right before the turn and applying throttle in the turn, so reading the owners manual is quite a reach.
