So today I made my Harbor Freight run, and put together a tool box for my GMC. The only bad things. 1) the tool box won't fit anywhere but under the bed, it's too big to slide into the "outside" tool bin, and 2) the credit card bill will have to be paid. Ouch.

In the process of sorting out and storing my tools, I came across these things, stored in with the jack in the tool bin. I have no clue what they're for... any guesses?

The red one looks like a puller for the nutt covers for the aluminum wheels. It looks too big to be a spark plug wire puller.

I don't have a clue as to the wooden clamps/ pullers.

Emery,

I agree the red tool is to pull plastic nut covers off Alcoa wheels.

The two wooden devices are awning anti flappers, the cutouts go over the
awning arms.

I feel very proud to know something about a GMC (even if it's only remotely
connected) that you didn't! ;-)

Do I win a prize?

Regards,
Rob M.

Emery and Bob have filled in the knowledge hole that was perplexing me since I opened my tool bin for the first time. I'm trying to picture how the "anti-flappers" work, but I'm sure it'll be obvious the first time my awnings start flapping.

And just knowing that the wheel nut covers are hard enough to get off that they require a special tool makes me wonder even more why they didn't just ship nice looking nuts with the wheels (but I suppose that costs $2 per wheel).

I don't have either of the "tools". I can pull off the Alcoa nut covers with my fingers. Although I have had to use a screwdriver under the bottom lip a couple of times to get the started.

As to the awning flapping holders it is my understanding that you clip them onto the side of the awning about in the middle and then hook the cut out part over the rod that goes along the side of the awning.
I haven't had a problem with my Zipdee flopping. Is that more of a problem with Carefree awnings??

The 2 wooden ones attach to the top awning arms and clamp to
the awning fabric to keep it from flapping.

Ahhhh, that makes sense (connecting the middle part of the "free sides" of the awning to the upper arms). Seems like a simple, if Rube Goldbergian solution to a problem. Thanks, guys!

The anti-flappers are also useful to keep the canvas taut to help prevent
trapped water -- and consequent awning destruction. That may not be a
problem on GMC's, since (most) GMCers are smart enough to slope the awning
so it won't hold water. But many SOB's need them -- they definitely
improved the A&E & Carefree wanings on a couple of mine. Plastic versions
are available at most RV stores.

I had a box with that problem, too. I ended up getting two boxes and
dividing the tools between them. Both boxes fit under my smaller
dinetter bench (my setup is custom, but this space is a couple of feet
square with a lid hinged about 8" from the back of the bench. No large
box could fit in there.

I still had to find a spot for the long tools, including a breaker bar
and 3/4"-drive ratchet handle large enough for the lug nuts, and a pry
bar long enough break whatever it is I'm trying to fix without the
mess of spilled blood.

I used the big box as an overflow box for my bicycle tools. It was
long enough even for a Campagnolo wheel dishing gauge.
