Hi Guys,

Happy 4th!

Started to head out to watch the Fireworks at the beach (the maiden voyage
so far this year) and after about 3 miles I start hearing a bad noise.
Grinding but not consistent grinding. Grinding like once every tire
revolution. Did 10 mph for the last 3 miles and made it to a safe haven.
Also noticed around right hand corners a louder clicking crunching sounds.
Upon stoping I went over to the driver front and had a smell like hot
lithium grease.
I am thinking drive axle?
Thanks,
Eden

I hope it is the CV joint, but more likely is the wheel bearing. :-(

Hope it's a good safe haven or that you have a road service to use for its
movement to a service location.

Good luck.

Did you feel the wheel to see if it was hotter then the other side? Did you jack the wheel off the ground to see if it had play in the bearings?

I've had quite a few rusty rotors and drums that will de-laminate and grind on the splash shield or caliper as the wheel turns. I knock the offending rusty parts off with a screw driver, so long as the working portion is still fine.

This hot humid weather can make them rust up overnight.
