We are just wrapping up a great week here in the Lakes region of New Hampshire. have seen many interesting things and even spent a night singing karaoke and may go back again tonight.
(and now for the GMC content)
I got to talk to a couple of local GMC'ers while trying to figure out why the holding tank won't dump. and as advertised the black list is full of very great people. (thanks Vern)
we did manage to get some of the tank to drain before the old gate valve finally broke,in a closed position, thankfully.
We will pick up a new valve at camping world on the way home and then figure out how to easily and cleanly get the rest of the tank empty so we can change the valve.
Off to do a bit of worm swim training.

Keep in mind the stock gate valve is a thedford valve (around $60) Campworld may only have thenewer style Valterra valves.

I just went around with this.
Camping World will have nothing that helps.
The Thetford valve that is on there is in no way interchangeable with anything else. There is a Valterra valve that you might be able to put on the dump flange, but you would still have to get the valve open to dump the tank.
Best bet - Call JimK tomorrow and have him airfreight it to you while you are still in the US. If it isn't the stainless front valve, at least the repair kit.
If you need, I have all the parts to make a Thetford valve work because I broke one and the only thing damaged was the case and gasket. I saved all the internal parts. I can have them at the Post Office tomorrow morning - if you need. If you need NOW, call me at seven 34 55 two 35two3. Before 10 AM tomorrow with an address. I could get the parts in the mail and you would have them Monday. Shipping would cost about 22$us by USPS.
But, you still have to dump and wash the tank or deal with the outfall somehow.
There is a Valterra valve (T58) that with an adapter (T05-2285) might go on the Thetford dog flange on the end of the dump pipe, but you still will need to get that valve open again - somehow...
I have designed, but have not actually built a Thetford/Valterra valve adapter and I could not have one to test until a number of things change here.

we decided to just worry about it after we returned home, and we are now back in Canada. I will check with Jim on Monday and order the Valve. I need a couple of other things as well so I will combine shipping. I usually have things shipped to a hardware store in Calais. they charge a small daily fee to hold your stuff for you.And I am Only about 1 1/2 hours from there.
We currently have a larger issue as we lost the Alternator somewhere in Maine last night and I drove home with the Onan running and my finger on the boost switch. (will start a new post on that)

I carry a $1.00 combiner. It is two alligator clips and a 6" piece of wire of 16 gauge wire. You could make it 14 gauge if desired. It takes less that 10 seconds to install and does not suffer from the downsides of running two dissimilar devices in parallel. I keep it tied to the wires go to the isolator so it is never lost.
I also have never needed to use it in the ten years or so it has been there. Some day maybe I'll actually need it. The money I saved went into the gas tank.

Why was it ever installed in the first place?
I have never need it in 10 years. I carry it like I carry a spare tire. It is there if ever needed but probably will never be used.
It is totally unneeded unless you have a problem like the alternator failure we are discussing in this thread.
With a combiner you are automating a totally unnecessary function that does nothing we never use in normal operation. If I need it someday, I'll take take 10 seconds to install it just like I would do if I ever have a flat tire.
Where do we quit on this redundancy stuff?
How about installing two wheels per tire position in case one goes flat?
Two starters?
Double windshields?
4 bumpers?
Two engines?
6 fan belts?
How about double hoses (one inside the other) in case one breaks?
As you can see the list borders on the ridiculous.

Might want to check the alignment before you see it in those new tires. If you popped a tire it's probably out
