Neil,

Each year we make loops out of Houston moving progressively west, the left

What route are you taking between Grand Junction and Cheyenne?

Also Mount Rushmore isn't too far from Deadwood.

Rob, if you are in Deadwood, and are a Biker, pass through Sturgis on your
way to Mount Rushmore. No living American should pass up a visit to
Rushmore. Damn hard to believe he did it all with dynamite and scaling
hammers. Crazy Horse is nearby too.

Rob, we're doing Mt. Rushmore for July 4.

Have a safe one.

Emery, we were in Santa Fe the other day. Visited the Shidoni Bronze
Foundry and one of the many galleries near downtown. Chips and salsa at
the La Fonda. Interesting place. Didn't buy jewelry at the plaza, however.

Rob,

I'd skip Roswell for Cloudcroft and the White Sands National Monument. Also the Space Museum in Alamogordo. You might see stuff there you recognize. If you do White Sands stop and see us in Las Cruces.

Since you are doing the Durango Silverton train, I'd take the GMC to Grand Junction via Moab UT. Take the river route from Moab to I-70. Spectacular scenery. Much easier route than direct from Durango to Grand Junction. Also I'd suggest returning to Durango from Silverton by the bus rather than returning on the train. Round trip on the train was more than enough for us.

Rob, Hal's suggestions are spot on! Cloudcroft is beautiful with a 'rails to trails' hike that's hard to beat. We did the Durango to Silverton train, with the bus ride back. The bus driver ran a running comentary that was very interesting. Awesome four wheeling in the Silverton/Ouray/Teluride area as well. You can rent a Jeep and take a day driving over one of the mountain passes on an old mining road. Awesome!

You'll also want to see the Crazy Horse monument near Deadwood. It's being
built with private funds and pretty impressive. Sandra

The aviation musuem in Omaha is well worth the day it will take to go through it. Used to stop there when I drove truck through there.

The Strategic Air and Space Museum (the greatly
expanded S.A.C. Museum that once was at Offut
AFB) is some 25 or 30 miles west of Omaha, just
to the north of I-80. Take Exit 426 and go north
toward Ashland.

Plan on spending a couple of hours there.

I bought a refrigerator magnet that says
"My Other Car Is A B-52" last time I was
there. I was on first and some 20 or so
more Arc Light missions.

Daughter's hubby retired from USAF at
Offutt at end of December 2010. He was
in 135s there (several times) and 130s
(gunships) down at Hurlburt. He is now
a civilian instructor at Offutt. My son
is a retired USAF Pave Low and Huey pilot
and now civilian instructor at Kirtland.
