While I don't approve of a lot of what this site condones, with the right equipment, you can find wire almost anywhere - without resorting to the phone tether.

Start with an Alfa adapter by some number with the the big antenna, then go to:
http://www.freeantennas.com/projects/template2/index.html
and build a high gain reflector out of office supplies.

If that doesn't work, it's tether time.

The idea of suggesting hacking a protected network is interesting.
Spoofing a MAC address can also work. I just wonder why go to all the
trouble to avoid being legal.

Both methods are for the criminally oriented portion of society which
keeps security folks employed.

(Seriously) I don't understand a single word in this entire post. Might as well be in Mandarin Chinese.

Maybe it's better this way. Smile

Stick,

You have two choices:

1 - Do without internet unless you are at home.

2 - Go to a major carrier and buy into a program that they can explain to you.

Many of us are to cheap to do the later and don't want to be isolated from the web any longer than is absolutely necessary.

Matt - I know what you are trying to accomplish. I just don't understand the terminology. I think I'm probably glad to get away from the internet when I'm traveling. I don't have a smart phone. I have a dumb phone.

I know this has been a topic at many rallies (I'm not real good about attending rallies) and hope that it would be presented again in the future. Hopefully in plain English. Maybe a "internet for traveling Dummies" would be a hit.

Thanks for trying - Stick

Stick -
Ask me about this fourth of july.  I* can maybe explain when we're in the same room.  My phone is a $14.95 WalMart, dumb as hell.  It does, however, work in Karnes County Tejas, it's the only one I ever found which will.

Stick,

Yes, it is almost a new language.

I'm glad Johnny is going to try to get a one on one with you. I hope it works out. If you make Amana and still have questions, I will be glad to answer what questions you have. We can even point at and talk about a lot of hardware.

I used to be sure to find wire (connect to the internet) when my business was alive because it was how I did everything. Now, when we are traveling, I use it for weather, road conditions and finding the best fuel prices. I would never have believed it could be as valuable as it is. At the same time, some of its value has gone away because advertizing has destroyed the content of all of the search engines.
