Got the neuwsed motor broke down. It had lots of water in the pan but i got to it before any rusting occured. pulled the cam and the crank. Only wear on the bearings was the cam brgs. It is all standard with GM brgs. The bore has hardly any wear still shows std with the Mic. Looks like i will be getting the new frame ready to go.Maybe i will be back on the road by Winter.

Are you going with an Olds or did you decide on the Cad 500?

Hey Tom
it is a good core. All that rain you guys got up there i brought some of it back with me. I could just re-ring and put new brgs in this motor but i think i may have it magnafluxed and checked out and besides i dont have a cam bearing installation tool. I think im going to have the radiator flushed and checked instead of using mine no metal in the one i got from you and there will be metal in the oil tank of mine. Im still thinking of an external oil cooler someone had posted pics of a Mazda RX7 cooler that i would like to do. But i will be able to get a rolling front frame ready to go when i pull the old one.

Hey Dennis
I did decide to go with the 455. I just have so much other stuff going on right now i can spend the time on modifying everything. I want to get it back on the road and use it.

Ted,
I'm going to take my grandsons to Huntsville to the Space Museum next week.
If the GMC survives that break-in cruise, I'll be pretty well caught up
around here. Let me know if you need any of the parts I've probably got,
or me to come help with anything. I hold folding chairs down pretty darned
good!

Thanks Ken
I gotta tell you using your tow bar to move the front clip around has been great saves the back. I will probably give you a call when i get the new clip together. I would like to get help pulling the old one and maybe rolling the new one right back under. I would lose my switch pitch and 3.21 though if i do it that way.

If you want to wait until you've got the old drive train out, my
transmission lifting device works pretty good to lift the trans+FD so it
wouldn't take long to R&R the SP+FD on your new clip -- even if the
engine's already installed in the frame.
Let me know & I'll try to be there!

http://local.yahoo.com/info-13888666-beaver-racing-engines-americus is here
if you don't find someone closer. It's in his shop that I've build my Cad
engines after he did the machine work. It's a one-man shop, except for a
part time evening worker, since his son left to become the instructor for
the Motor Sports Technology program at the local technical college. He's
won several "NASCAR Engine Builder of the Year" awards. I have no idea how
his prices run because he's still "paying me back" for the 6 months his son
& DIL lived in our guest house after the tornado.

There are a couple, I have no idea they're good, bad, or indifferent. Since the guys in Athens closed, I use Slack Auto Parts in Gainesville, they have a pretty good machinist.
