I was just looking at Armand's seminar "How we remodeled the living area of our GMC" and noticed his pictures of the water pump. It had never occurred to me before but what's under that bump up at the rear floor? The road?

Here's a link to his presentation - it's very well done <http://gmcws.org/blog/?p=430>

The 1" plywood that makes up floor throughout the coach continues under the "wedge". Mine was made of solid hardwood and I'm sure the coach leveled out when I removed it. Made good fire wood.

Under that sloped piece of wood lies the water line from the outside source to the water tank, plus furnace duct work. And some wiring.

Larry, on my coach there is only road under that 'wedge' (I think). I remember when I was bolting the water pump to it I could get to it from under the back end. My water fill tube from the left side to the tank on the right goes in front of that wedge and so did (I got rid of it) the ductwork for the 'heat'. Thanks for the compliment.

Depends on the model and year I guess....under my 75 Avion rear floor wedge was lint balls and saw dust....nothing else. FWIW.

I had to remove mine to replace the floor. Nothing but dust bunnies underneath. It's just screwed on top of the plywood floor.

I could be dreaming, but I vaguely recall somewhere on Bill Bryant's history cd, reading that one of the GM Exec's wives didn't like that her feet didn't touch the floor from the rear settee's and hence a last minute plywood wedge.

What I heard the reason was for the raised floor in the rear of the dry
bath coaches with the twin gaucho beds with the hanging bunks was that it
was difficult for the smaller people to get up into the bunks, so they
raised the floor instead of steps or ladders or the like.

If my coach had the raised platform in the back my beloved PO removed it. I suspect this is the case. The bump I was asking about is the 45 degree bump directly at the lower rear corner of the coach. I think it’s a water and heater plenum.

That is where the rear frame section "kicks up" to the height to mount the bumper.

Your first post asked, "... but what's under that bump up at the rear floor? The road?"

Ah... Yes.
