The revcon front end is pretty much all Toronado stock so it's a few inches narrower than the GMC.
Can anyone offer a guess as to how much more re-engineering it might take to adapt the one ton conversion to the Revcon?
At this point everything is good but I will need some front end work eventually.
It's good to know my options.

As none of us know more about the Revcon than you do, (here YOU are the Revcon expert!) it is likely that any comments from here would be "guesses."
But we can talk theory. As the Revcon uses the stock unmodified Toro front suspension, it would kind of like installing a one ton on a Toro.
The differences between the Toro and GMC mostly consist of beefing up the GMC parts and extending the axles to match the wider track of the GMC. The other changes for the wider track are in the frame.
So, in theory, other than the axle, you should be able to bolt on the one ton.
You might be able to use non-dually wheels if you use a shorter spacer.

It is time to get loose from the Revcon and pick up a more modern GMC. I can see that you would be much more pleased with a better looking coach that has all of our support.
Come on man, get with the program.

Not gonna' happen- at least not until I've given the Revcon a good workout.
I may convert the entire drive train to GMC parts but we really like that ugly square box.

Dave, the axles are custom made for the 1 Ton. If your Revcon is narrower
than the GMC, custom axles should be the only custom thing needed for the
setup, IF THE LOWER AND UPPER CONTROL ARMS ARE THE SAME AS THE GMC.

Rob,
I do try to limit my questions to things that are common to both coaches but the Toronado is a pretty good reference point as there seems to be some familiarity among GMCers as to how the GMC differs from the car.
There is a document called Junk Yard Gems floating around that covers a lot of that and i believe it says that control arms from a toro are compatable with minor modification.
So that would mean the GMC control arms are compatable with the Revcon, with minor modification.
I dismissed the one ton conversion at first thinking it would involve a lot of re-engineering.
The idea of my dumb ass coming behind Bill Hubler and the others who have developed the one ton is pretty ludicrous.
Then it occurred to me that if the control arms are common (almost) then the only issue is the width, and if the axles are custom made anyway, that a one ton conversion on the Revcon would not be that difficult.
So my qustion was just seeking confirmation but I guess I wasn't entirely clear at first.
thanks

Dave,
First of all the IIRC your Revcon has 5 stud hubs, the GMC has eight stud
hubs. I seriously doubt that Manny or JimK are going to sell you a kit
unless you can send him a set of serviceable or rebuild able hubs as they
are rare as rocking horse poo.
Then there's the lower control arms, unfortunately you are incorrect. The
modifications to Toro arms are NOT minor. Go to the Photosite and find
SteveF's -photos (bowtiemad) and find the album that shows how he modifies
them.
When you're done with this go to JimK's website and see how much eight stud
hubs, modified lower control arms, and the 1 ton kit costs.
Don't forget to add in the core charges that you will be up for.
Regards,
Rob M.

I have been under the impression that the one ton axles had to be "custom" only for length. As you axles are shorter than a TZE's, it is SLIGHTLY possible that the one ton axles might not need modifying... not likely but possible.
Does anyone have the length differences for a Toro axle, a GMC (TZE) and a one ton. As you seem to use stock Toro axles this information would let you know what changes would be required.
About the A-arms... Rob is right that they had to be beef'ed up to handle the extra weight, but they did not change the actual mounting to the frame. TZE A-arms (oem style or 1 ton) SHOULD bolt right on. IIRC the Toro used smaller (thinner) torsion bars with spacer plugs in the pork-chop... I am not sure how they handled the A-arm end.
I would talk with a vendor about any cores they expect back. You might want to address the 5-lug/8-lug problem.
OBTW: How much weight is on the front wheels of the Revcon? How much would a one ton really help? It would give you better brakes, regardless of weight.

That would be the length of the original un-modified one tone axle, for comparison.

| Dave would end up with 8 stud hubs on the front.
Jim K. requires a $200 core charge for the Bill Hubler kit, but his site says nothing about a core for the Manny kit. So a Hubler kit would cost Dave $2495 without returning any parts and the Manny kit would still be $1570. Not sure what the core is: hubs, or arms or both.
Jim K. does not accept arms from a 73 as a rebuildable core on his Refurbished Control Arms that he sells for $1049, making the cost of that kit $1349 for those of us with 73s. Do not know if that restriction on 73 arms applies to the Hubler kit. From where I live, shipping would eat up a big chunk of that $200 core deposit so not sending back a core is not as bad as it might appear. Dave is farther from Jim K. than I am.
