Gentlemen (and others)

I am missing out on the "dog house insulation" thread.

What is the "dog house"? (the cover over the engine compartment?)
What insulation have you discovered?
In that I have the interior of my coach in bits, any lead to good, better, best stuff is appreciated.

Peter,

There was a fellow (Darren Paget) in the Great White North who made aluminum upper cabinets and a raised engine cover referred to as a Dog-House. His work was reported to be excellent and his engine cover was insulated and well received.

We got off on a tangent talking about insulation.

Peter,

The air cleaner in a 455 powered GMC gets very close to the bottom of the
engine hatch and there's a recess cut into it to clear the air cleaner top.
Here's a picture of Ray's engine hatch that is held open by gas struts:

If you install an engine other than a 455 Olds you may have to build a "dog
house" over the air cleaner.

Also if you install an aftermarket performance manifold such as an Edelbrock
Performer it is WAY too tall to fit under the OEM engine hatch and you WILL
have to build a "dog house' over the air cleaner.

Below is a link to a picture of Darren Paget's aluminum "dog house."

Some owners integrate a console into them to put "stuff on."

Or if you like looking at your engine you can build one like this:

Rob M.

If you install an engine other than a 455 Olds or and aftermarket
performance intake manifold such has an Edelbrock you may have to build a
"dog house" over the engine.

To make it clear you build a "box" into the engine hatch that looks like a
"dog house."

Below is a link to a picture of Darren Paget's aluminum "dog house."

If you're an engine voyeur like Dan you might like a hatch like this:

Rob M.
