Jack stands are rated as a pair, e.g. 3 tons is 1.5 tons each. They have 6 tons jack stands as well which I've been using for some time. I also have their 4 ton floor jack which works well. I had a HG 2 1/2 ton floor jack give way on me. Made a bit of mess, but no personal damage. It was either the jack or perhaps I placed it incorrectly under the bogie. Anyway, it's been retired.

When I read your email I said to myself; "HUH?"
I went to Harbor Freight and searched for JACK STANDS. I clicked on the
photo of the 3 ton and found the following spec:
Description
The combined weight of these two heavy-duty jack stands is only 15 lbs, yet
they can support and hold most cars and trucks safely off the ground. These
jack stands feature an adjustable height from 11-3/4" to a maximum of
16-3/4" to easily position under your vehicle for repair work or storage.

CAPACITY 6000 lb. HOLY CRAP! I'VE BEEN PIMPING THEIR 3 TON JACK STANDS
FIGURING THAT THEY WERE GOOD FOR THREE TONS EACH!
Talk about making a dumb mistake that could have grave consequences!
I checked the Owners manual for the later models 77 - 78 and found the
following:
26 Foot GMC
Curb weight front: 3,750 lb Curb weight rear is 6,820 lb
Front cargo & pass. load: 750 lb Rear cargo & pass load: 1,280 lb
Total: 4,500 lb Total
8,000 lb
Curb weight is the maximum weight of the vehicle without driver, passenger
or cargo, but does include fuel and coolant.
23 Foot GMC
Curb weight front: 3,700 lb Curb weight rear is 5,950 lb
Front cargo & pass. load: 500 lb Rear cargo & pass load: 1,550 lb
Total: 4,200 lb Total
7,500 lb
Curb weight is the maximum weight of the vehicle without driver, passenger
or cargo, but does include fuel and coolant.
As you can see the 3 ton stands can safely handle the front of both length
vehicles.
However, if you use the 3 ton jack stands under the rear bogies of a 23 ft
GMC you will overload them up to 750 lbs each and under a 26 ft GMC up to
1000 lb each. In fact from the data I've seen collected at weigh in sessions
it could even be more!
DO NOT USE 3 TON JACK STANDS TO SUPPORT THE REAR OF THE GMC!

I have no main gas tank after the POS HF 6 ton stand collapsed under rear bogie area last year. Stacks of 2x12x12's for me thank you. I live to tell ya a coach is awful hard to get up when its sitting on its frame. (All wheels were off of it when it fell)

Regarding jacking. Never go under a GMC without for sure support! I always use wood blocking under the jack points between the boogies after raising the frame with the 3 ton jack with timber under tee in frame just forward of boogies, speading the weight over two feet of the frame. As to the front, two 6 ton jack stands preferably with floor jack or third jack stand under front cross member. Do not die under your GMC. There are better ways to go. One stack of two by blocks on a solid base, such as concrete will support the whole GMC. This also pretains to going under with the wheels on. If the rear air bag system, new or old were to let go, deflate or blow while you are under the frame, you would be crushed. Mechanics at all levels of skill should heed this warning. And if you are a novice, especially. The whole point of GMC ownership is to drive them, not die under them.

EACH of my Torin Big Red jackstands from
Northern Tool has "3 TON" on its label.
Mine are the "double locking" variety that
have a solid pin that passes through the
frame and locks (supposedly) the riser
from dropping because it acts on the
teeth of that riser.
I know there is a difference between a
metric "tonne" and a US/English "ton."
The metric tonne is 1000 kg, which is
close to 2200 pounds or about 10% more
actual weight that "our" ton.
Is 6,000 lbs not equal to 3 tons as I
learned it in elementary school some
65 years ago??

I drove to HF in Macon, GA and bought myself a "semi-dremel" tool kit and a fake "sawzall". Good enough for amateur work.

I'm confused!
Are you saying that each jack stand is rated at 3 tons and if you use a pair
you can support 6 tons?
Also I don't understand what a metric tonne has to do with this discussion,
the jack stands rated in tons not metric tonnes.
I went to the Torin website and downloaded the manual for these stands. It
does not state what the "total" weight they will support is so I emailed
Customer Service and asked if a pair would support 6,000 pounds or 12,000
pounds.
I do REALLY like the back up pin! It appears that you could add that feature
to the HF jack stands.
If you could take some pictures of your jack stands with measurements it
would help anyone that has jack stands without this feature.
Picture of the pins with measurements would also help.

@ Rob. These two are currently supporting the front end of the girlfriends 15' Scotty camper. They appear to handle 100 lbs of tongue weight just fine even bent. LOL
anyway,
Both rear sides were first lifted w. hooks to get to min. jack-stand height. I was lifting under the center of the rad. support when the Drivers side jack stand just collapsed sending coach southward. It just looks like the thin plate steel reinforcement spot welded to legs just buckled with the slightest lateral pressure pushing rearward while lifting. The welds are fine the plates are bent slightly.
PS: I also have a 2 y.o. 3T Torin Floor Jack from Northern Tool that is also a complete POS. No matter how slow you go on turning the handle it drops like a guillotine. And that's under my VW. I wouldn't even think about it around the GMC.
I could not be more disgusted as an American.

If THAT is correct, then a pair should safely hold up
even the rear end of the GMC, as far as I can see.
I simply do not KNOW!
I hope you get a good answer from Torin because I would
REALLY like to know! When I jacked up Money Pit/Pig at
Shawnee on the left side to fix my black tank dump rod
mechanism, it all seemed quite sturdy.
By the way, the Northern Tool part number for the ones
I bought (on sale) is 144874-1204.
The height range is 11 5/8 to 16 3/4 inches. That
"locking peg" is a solid aluminum triangular device that
goes through the stand completely and locks the ratcheting
extension.

When I weighed my 26 foot, I found that each front wheel was just over a ton (~2200lbs) and EACH rear wheel was just under a ton (~1750lbs).
IF the stands are rated at 3 tons a pair that would make them rated at 1.5tons (3000lbs) EACH. One SIDE in the rear of my 26 foot weighs about 3500lbs. (500lbs overload.)
So... Yes, it makes a BIG difference.
