I seriously want to see 11mph one day.
I got 10.5 once with a big tailwind pushing me down the Columbia Gorge
on I-84.
Us lightweight (#10,000) 230 drivers should be able to do better!

With my Turbo City set up I don't record all the time, but after it was installed, kept my gas vs mileage, and measured 10.8

I honestly believe that with fuel injection and an electronic spark control you will get nearer to 11 than with any other mod. You may have to drive south, so that it's all downhill, but I think it's possible.

Asheville to N. GA 55 on the freeway cruise set, 12. Using Carolina (Non smog area gas, and gas no alcohol) Only once never since. Usually 10, drops when the toad's on.

Gene / Larry,
I am reasonably confident that Dave Lenzi has advised that he gets more than
10 mpg with his 8.1 Vortec; I think it's 12. I couldn't believe it when he
let me drive it. I can tell you that it GOES! That's because the 8.1
produces 410 ft lb of torque at 1200 rpm.
Correct me if I'm wrong but when I visited with you and Manny on the way
back to Sydney didn't Manny say he got 17 mpg or was it 14? It was some
"teen" I do know that.
Manny also mentioned that he was "playing" with the turbo boost as he was
not happy with the power level - yet. His goal was to extract as much
horsepower without stressing the engine.
Marc Hogenboom noted in his presentation at the Shawnee GMCMI Convention
that he got 14-15 mpg out of his diesel with a mechanical fuel injection
system.
The down side is that you have to have SERIOUS mechanical skills to install
any one of these engines.

On the way to Casa de Fruta, going south on 5, I was at 10.6 according to the WUD, which is close to pump reality. I was ready to brag to Gene. Then I went over Pacheco pass. When I got to Casa, I was at 9.4.
Ha! Everyone knows going South is down... Just look at a map.
Between 8 and 10, just like Gene said. But I am all hopeful...

Fuel injection, no-ethanol gas, 2 roof air conditioners, big roof storage unit, small dog and cockatiel, I never felt like I got more than 5 mpg.

During the four years we drove our 78 Royale I never saw more than 9.2
mpg. In fact, the overall mileage for the coach (one AC on the roof and a
pod, no tow) was 8.6. I would have enjoyed getting closer to 10. The only
way to do that was to lie. I will say, also, that the best we got was when
we happened to get some "real" gasoline in West Virginia in 2008. Ethanol,
in my mind, gets the credit for reducing economy and performance (cough,
cough).
Now, like a few others loose in America, I enjoy better mileage and higher
prices in a diesel pusher. Cost of fuel per mile is about the same -- the
torque at 1625 rpm and a six-speed transmission is amazing.
Lest some of you think I'm crazy just consider this -- I still greatly
admire the GMC and the community of owners that goes with it's admirers.
