Billy:

Looks like he forgot to add my info back to the list. It somehow got removed on the last update and per our emails that was to be corrected on this update.

Thanks, Billy, Jim, Roger, etc., for maintaining the Black List. I've
been lucky to have never yet needed it, but I sure feel a lot better
having it available.

However, I've just finished scanning the whole new list & see a
problem: WE need to find some way to update it. On the list I found
at least a dozen, probably twice that, people whom I know to have
either left the GMC community, passed away, deteriorated seriously in
health, moved (some even from one country to another), have new phone
numbers or email addresses, or otherwise are no longer likely to
appreciate calls. A lot ot the listings refer to "recent GMC
purchases" -- 10 years ago! Or about to "do such'n'such" -- 5-10
years ago. As a WAG, I'd say 20%+ of the listings need updating.

I don't know how to go about it unless we solicit volunteers; perhaps
one per state, to (attempt to) contact all the others in their state
(obviously states with larger populations would need more volunteers).
And for future maintenance, I think every entry should have the date
it was last updated.

I'll take GA if the project takes off. (Pretty easy since I know right
off that at least 3 of "my" 10 need to come off the list & only a
couple more are folks I don't know about.)

Ken,
This has been a concern of mine since day one. Since it's a voluntary
list those who know of someone who should be removed can contact me at r1black@comcast.net
and I'll gladly check them out and remove them as appropriate.

A quick email with name AND state and reason for removal would help a
great deal. I can then check them out and forward it on.

It's been such a blessing for the other guys taking on this project,
that I haven't really had anything to do with the list lately. Thanks
to them as they certainly deserve it.

This was brought up on the Net about a year ago. Nothing happened.

Or each local chapter could furnish that information. They should know who their members are and when they change.

A column containing "Last Update" was added to the list with the June 2008 publication.

All I can say about all of the above is.... HELP!!!

Roger, Jim, et al,

Tomorrow should be a good day to try to contact all the Georgia
Crackers, so I'll do so & pass the results to y'all.

And maybe a little info on those not so fortunate whom I happen to
know about too.

I agree. I few years ago I tried to call all the Blacklisters in Oregon and Washington. I would say that 20% is a low number. I couldn't CONTACT 20%. About 20% of the listings I actually made contact with needed to be dropped from the list for one reason or another. 40% non-contact/no help is a bit high, but it does leave 60% "good" numbers.

Some that I contacted had left the GMC community years ago but STILL WANTED TO STAY ON THE LIST. I like people like that.

I would not want to drop members just due to not being able to contact them. They could be traveling or something during the times I had been trying to call. Maybe we need to work "Last Contact" into the "Last Update".

I need to find some time when "normal" people are awake, and I'll call the Oregon "Listers" again. It needs to be done every few years.

Seems like an email to everyone on the list that has one would help? No matter (almost) where someone is they can answer an email sooner or later.

Oh, that it were so easy.

There are roughly 700 names (give or take a couple dozen) on the list, and, the list is not set up in a manner that is conducive to mass mailings (I may be wrong about this). However, any volunteers to do so would be absolutely more than welcome.

I am a firm believer that each chapter of GMCs should be able to take care of the problem of notification. Let Roger, bdub or myself know and we will update the list. Please!!!!

I someone wants me to I can get the email addresses from the spreadsheet version and send an email to all of them. I would need some words for the message and someplace to send the list of bad email addresses (I am sure that there would be some).

If someone wants me to do anything about this send me a message off net to armand@minniebiz.com.

Text search the text file looking for the "@" symbol, and when you find it, throw characters before and after it till you hit a space.  Then throw away from the original what you found, and assemble in the few remaining to mass mail.  Check the bounces and take appripriate action, three weeks and you got a fairly accurate list

I would use the gmcws mailchimp account and I can import data from a spreadsheet directly. Not hard.
