After working on it the entire three day weekend, and the last three evenings, after work, I finally finished up the installation of my new Gary Rockwell intake manifold. I have worried over this for several months and continued to worry as I was doing the work. I think my hair is a little grayer by now.
I used Dick Patterson's gaskets with 3-M weather strip/gasket adhesive and Permatex "Right Stuff" in place of the end seals. I had several fitment issues with minor accessories, but since my engine is stock and has never had any machine work done to it, I did not experience any problems with the manifold to head interface. After filing it with coolant, making a few minor adjustments, and tying up a few loose ends, I turned on the ignition, let my electric pump prime the carburetor, gave the throttle a few pumps, and it fired up on the first crank. It ran smoother than ever and held a steady 16" of vacuum at idle (this is at an elevation of 2,600 ft).
I let it run up to operating temperature, and checked for leaks. There were none that I could detect. I hooked up my timing light and checked the timing. It was spot on, besides, I have an MSD dash timing control for adjustment to compensate for altitude and load.

I know I'm not completely out of the woods yet, as I haven't even driven it around the block, much less on a trip. I will be keeping my fingers crossed.
