OK, is the firing order in the 1976 Service manual correct? I have checked the firing order 3 times and it is correct. I did not remove my distributor during the manifold swap, and I'm pretty sure it is not loose. All plug wires are tight.

Engine idles fine, a bit rough, but normal, but under any sort of accel or load or even revving in Park, I get constant backfire. WTF???

All I did was R&R the manifold. Is it possible I have a leak between the ports and the crossover ports? I wouldn't think so. Nothing else has been changed...

GM basic 18436572 as far as I know. Retrace those wires again. Between Rick and Matt there is an "I know better than to do that" Olympics competiton on.

Yeah, I noticed that. I don't plan on participating in that compettition. At least the manifold is not leaking... on the outside... This is driving me nuts.

Nope, 3 an 6 were swapped. Stupid manual has the little picture of the distributor wrong. but the 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2 is correct RIGHT DAMN NEXT TO IT!!!

I wonder if THAT ever came up in this forum before. I never have this problem as I usually label them, but the sharpie was a bit worn off so I blew the dust off the manual and sure as shit it burned me.

So much for taking it out to the storage tonight. Time to open a beer.

Chris,

Sorry 'bout that. The incorrect timing sequence in the manual is a long,
long known error. But there's always that 2%. :-)
