The Onan has always been a little cranky. Push the putton, sometimes works, sometimes just a whirring sound. But it always started after a few pushes of the button.

Not anymore

The starter motor is activating. I hear either a whirring sound or a screeching sound.

Maybe a bad "bendix"?

I did some research and see that broken brackets have been an issue. With the drawer open the starter looked to be in the normal position. I am not sure what else to look for.

Thoughts and suggestions alays appreciated.

(ps - still havn't figured out whats wrong with the frig.)

Thanks

Neil,
Pull out the drawer and use the switch there as you will hear better
as to what is happening.

Neil,

This is exactly what I'm chasing! When I engage the starter it's like roulette. Will it hit, or not? I think it's the bendix in my case as the starter mount looks really beefy. I thing my beloved PO put in the RAGUSA starter bracket.

If your starter bracket is broken the RAGUSA bracket should do the trick. Un-bolt the front cover, the fan tin, and then you'll have to remove the flywheel. (it looks easier than I thought...) the starter comes off with 2 bolts - no need to undo all that other stuff if you're just going to replace it.

Good luck!
