Netters
Is Mobile 1 still an acceptable grease for CV joints or has it fallen out
of fashion?
I hope the answer is 'yes' because I just stuffed the CV joints in my
Porsche with the stuff, however, it's a easy job to do and I can replace it
with something else if necessary. As mentioned by a few in the past, the
bottom of the can had some 'cherry juice' floating around.

Hi Mike: it probably will be fine in one of them Porches, but I would not use it in the Panhead.

No question there's a lot if reading there, but after 30 years teaching
English, I now just look at the pictures now. I will do all furture
selecting based upon colour and design of the packaging. Even this method
give a lot of selection and good quality <VBG> Thanks for the info !

Don't think I'd use it on the Panhead either.....the Pan is way too
complicated. The manual states on p.13, " If winter weather becomes so
extremely cold that 'Light' oil congeals in tank, add just enough kerosene
to keep oil fluid."
No measurements, no further directions...common sense required.....and that
usually leaves me out! <VBG>

Don't know that I'd use it on my Pan either, it's way too complicated.

Isn't that Mobil One Synpower grease that is recommended for

I've switched to Valvoline Synpower found at NAPA. Used to like Moble One grease as you can see when clean red grease starts to come out of fittings that are on vented boot parts. However I found the phase separation issue on the red stuff when it sat. Might not be a big deal as it's the carrier settling out. But since these GMCs sit a lot I figured there would be less of that with Synpower. Also the Synpower seems to have solved 'stearing coupler ball bind' on several posts here, so that is the best "field test" I can think of. It seems a bit more substancial than the red stuff. Only one SKU now to have in the garage.

Mobile one grease is good for little red pull wagons and outhouse doors.
I almost lost some rear wheel bearings to it. Luckily Blaine spotted it and we repacked ALL of my rear wheels just in time. I use Valvoline Synpower on important things like bearings and CV joints. I use TSC non-synthetic moly grease in minimum motion things like ball joints and tie rod ends.
Save the Mobil One for the outhouse. When it fails you probably will still be able to get the door open.

All I use on my coach is caterpillar desert gold grease, quite pricey, about $14
per tube, but it's incredible stuff.
I'm not a chemical engineer so maybe someone will tell me it's crap, but in the
research I've done I think it's the way to go. JMHO.

All I use on my coach is caterpillar desert gold grease, quite pricey, about
$14
per tube, but it's incredible stuff.
I'm not a chemical engineer so maybe someone will tell me it's crap, but in

do, maybe you have the specs for Ultra 5Moly.

I don't think the operating range goes to 2320 degrees I think they mean 232
degrees. At what temperature does steel melt?
I read somewhere that Calcium Sulfonate was a better thickener than Lithium
when there a chance that moisture might be present.
Like you say, it is pretty much the same as Valvoline Synpower

Cat has so many greases I don't know which to use so I stick with valvoline Synpower. I guess if I had a Cat it would tell me which one. Mine just meow and Hissss.
