Good Morning

Took our first trip this weekend and whenever we fill with gas we get a horrible
gas smell in the coach, this is the first time this has happened. Last summer I
dropped the tanks and put in all new lines, etc. All lines and connections are
good as of checking today.

The smell is the worst back by the bathroom.

Only change this year from last is a new Paterson rebuilt carb, but the coach
runs great and there is no gas smell near the engine. Could the canister line
to the carb be wrong? From all the books I looked at I have it correct.

Once the tanks get down to 1/2 tank, no more smell.

The coach has new body isolation pads and there is plenty of clearance between
the tanks and the body/frame, there is no pinching of lines.

Any Help would be appreciated.

Thanks Everyone !

Ray

Any chance that the vapor/liquid separator by the left rear wheels is damaged/failed and that liquid is getting to the canister and overloading it when the tank is full? Seems like a stretch, but?

Ray, it really sounds, smells, like you have gasoline sitting on top of one of the tanks, probably the rear one. Maybe a mouse chewed a line or something came loose.
Hope this is not the case.

I agree with Dan.

Most likely a line. But it also could be the sender and or sender seal. Do you see any dripping? (yah, I wouldn't fill it up just to look....)

IIRC: There is a hole in the floor to make room for the shower drain near the bathroom. Might be where the fumes are making it into the coach.

IMHO: Keeping fumes outside the coach is one point against cutting holes in the floor to access the senders. (Not that having a solid floor really helps THAT much!) A point for the access holes would be that for this problem, you could pop them open and check... even when filling at the gas station!

Like Mike said, it very well could be the sender. What happens when there is a small release hole or crack in the fuel line, or the sender gasket is, the fuel will puddle on top of that tank when it gets full at the filling station. If it is not a lot it will not run over the edges but settle in the low spots. When you drive the fuel will then run off so you do not see it. But, you will smell it when you fill the tanks. Eventually the leak will get worse and you will see it running out back there. Ask me how I know. When you drop the tank, you will see the fuel stain on top of that tank.
Dan, cutting holes when I drop the tanks next time.

Ray, the smallest leak on the top of your tank will be immediately noticed inside your coach. I think you need to drop them.

Ray did you use the new type fuel line for ethanol. The older stuff can go bad quickly and could have had shelf time allready. Separator or switch over valve is second guess.
