SEM Paint. Get the whole "system".

The stuff seems to melt into the ABS of those panels. if I scratch it
hard enough I can get down to the original olive drab but normal wear
and tear hasn't exposed any.

And I had bright blue vinyl door panels in my Datsun. Sprayed them with
a light gray SEM and they're still great 6 years later. Even where my
knee touches the door constantly when I'm driving.

Some will say Krylon Fusion. I haven't had good luck with that when I
have used it...but that might just be me. SEM has worked for me on
three projects...

Either system should work, as I have had good luck with the Krylon Fusion product. I think the main requirement is that the surface is truly clean and free of any wax or other contaminants. I seem to remember that the Krylon instructions had me washing the panels down with ammonia (or vinegar?), and that was after many hard scrubbings with SimplenGreen and a pressure washer.

As with all painting, it's all in the preparation!

Hello,

I found that SEM worked better than Krylon fusion.
Had problems with getting the satin sheen over the whole area.
This leaves some ares looking patchy. I think that the UV has altered the plastic in places, preventing it from adhering correctly.... I may get the panels coated with Epoxy to try and correct this. Cleaned the panels with all the recommended cleaners etc, and still had the same problems. Used soap and water, this created patchy areas. ALso with the high humidity here in florida, i think that also affects the paint finish.
Just a few things i have found out here.

cheers and beers

I'm a huge fan of the regular Krylon. I've actually painted cars with
it with some success. Not show quality, but the paint is still on there
years later. That is all about prep. I know how to prep surfaces for paint.

The front and rear ceiling caps in my coach are painted with white
Krylon. They're holding up very well but don't really get much wear
and tear.

The two times I've used Fusion the paint has come off when I didn't
think it should have.
The three times I've used SEM the paint has stayed on far better than I
expected it to.

No contest in my mind but obviously only an opinion. Very sure poor
prep for the Fusion wasn't the problem in my case.

Kelvin

Actually, I've had better luck with Fusion. Guess it's a toss up Smile

I used Fusion on my interior panels when I replaced the hind quarters of
Jaws. No signs of failure since. But these areas don't get much wear, and I
think that's the key for this product. I would not use it for higher wear
points in the cockpit.

I have had excellent luck and a great finish with Krylon Fusion, satin finish, white. I have used it on GMC headliner end caps, window trim, and AC cover inside. I have also used it on Airstream/Argosy plastics that have gone that ugly old banana yellow.
