Rob,
You have to be registered with Harbour Freight .When you buy an Item without
warranty you are not registered ,you just get a receipt and you need it for
returns.
You have a good idea about making a copy of the receipt .it seems like all
receipts now a days, are printed on thermal Paper ,that disappear rather
quickly.
I think, it is planned that way ,no permanent receipt.

Paul,
That probably is true for the extended warranties; however, for the "normal"
warranties you need receipts at the store on I-45 in
Houston.
Also because they are printed on thermal paper and the print quality is
lousy I make photo copies and put them in a folder stapled
to the originals.
