Rob,
You have to be registered with Harbour Freight .When you buy an Item without
warranty you are not registered ,you just get a receipt and you need it for
returns.
You have a good idea about making a copy of the receipt .it seems like all
receipts now a days, are printed on thermal Paper ,that disappear rather
quickly.
I think, it is planned that way ,no permanent receipt.

Paul,

That probably is true for the extended warranties; however, for the "normal"
warranties you need receipts at the store on I-45 in
Houston.

Also because they are printed on thermal paper and the print quality is
lousy I make photo copies and put them in a folder stapled
to the originals.

Regards,
Rob M

Paul,

I began making copies of the receipts due to the two experiences detailed below at the Harbor Freight store on I-45 in Houston.

In 2007 when I bought Double Trouble I went to a Harbor Freight store in Pennsylvania near Ken Frey's shop in Quakertown and bought
a tool box and filled it with tools. I did not keep the receipt because they were all hand tools and were covered by HF's lifetime
warranty. I figured they worked it like Sears who NEVER ask for a receipt when you bring in a broken Craftsman tool.

When I was back in the USA earlier this year the 16 oz ball peen hammer I bought broke, the wedge that keeps the head on the handle
fell out along with a chunk of wood. I took the hammer back and was told by the girl at the counter that I had to have a receipt. I
noted I didn't and she sorry, she could not help. Naturally I asked to see the store manager. He came up and I explained my plight
and asked if the hammer came out of a set. I told him yes as I thought it was part of a basic mechanics tool set I had purchase. He
then told me I’d have to bring in the rest of the "hammer set." I didn't tell him that it was part of a basic mechanics set as I
wasn't sure of that, I told him I lived in Australia (and showed him my drivers license). He then said he would get a 16 oz hammer
out of a set and exchange it, however, the handle would be fiberglass. I told him I would be happy with whatever he gave me as long
as it was 16oz. I really don't understand why he did that as at the time the 16oz ball peen hammers were on sale for something like
$3.99! He broke up a four hammer set worth much more.

I bought a 19vdc drill that was covered by a 90 day warranty. The battery stopped taking a charge after about a month. I brought it
back but forgot the receipt. I was told that I HAD to produce the receipt to prove when I bought it. They WOULD / COULD not trace it
in their system. I went back and found the receipt and they exchanged it.

I would like to make one additional suggestion regarding HF tools. TEST THEM BEFORE YOU LEAVE THE STORE! I bought a 1/2" 120VAC
drill last time I was back there. I got it back to the workshop, plugged it in, the motor ran but the chuck didn't turn! I had to go
through the hassle of driving all the way back to the HF store to exchange it. Needless to say I plugged the replacement in and it
worked fine.

I believe that if you take the extended warranty you get registered in the HF system, however, I still would make copies of your
receipts. Dan Gregg has had some frustrating dealing with one of the auto parts chains that couldn't find warranties on some parts
he bought.

Regards,
Rob M.
