Refrigerator propane line [message #170583]

I seem to remember that someone once posted how to run a new propane supply line to the fridge. My coach has a leak in the line, and it needs to be replace. As long as we're doing this, I figured we should try to route the line in the safest location (obviously not through the wheel well area ).

Can it be run under the water heater, above the wheel well liner, and into the fridge compartment? That seems like the most direct route, though it is running through the inside of the coach.

Any thoughts or advice?

I put a tee in right after the regulator and then ran a propane hose down and to the upper right back corner of the propane compartment. I drilled through the wall at that location and put a copper line through that wall, underneath the water heater and sink and drilled a hole just to the left rear of the refrigerator. The copper line attached to the refrigerator shut off valve and the other end to the rubber hose.

You can buy the hose in various lengths at camping supply places. It has fitting already on the ends.

I had the hose made up at a local hose fabricator and ran it above the fender well, under the water heater etc. My propane compartment is different from most with a smaller tank that was installed by the PO, so it probably looks different than yours. If I had a stationary tank, I would have run the tee right after the regulator, like Emery did.

I intend to modify the propane compartment to make it more efficient. It works as is, but can be improved upon.

First thought... Be careful when drilling holes:

Second thought: Run a hose (about the size of a 3/4 garden hose) from the propane compartment to the behind the fridge. Seal this to the bulkheads at each end. Run the propane line INSIDE this hose. (Double containment.) Any propane from a leak in the line should end up in the propane compartment or behind the fridge... both areas should be vented to allow the propane to drain... remember propane is heavier than air.
